What do you consider appropriate time to respond to an e-mail?
Where did basic manners and courtesy disappear among a few Fellow AR Realtors? I am very troubled by the lack of courtesy and manners some of our members in this community have. I am not referring to new members who do not necessarily know what protocol is. I am referring to some allegedly well respected members. Hence I will share my experience and you tell me if I am wrong and am over reacting. Before I do that, let me ask you if some one sends you and e-mail what do you consider an appropriate Response? Is it two hours, is it ten hours, and is it twenty four hours? Let me ask in a different way, does it make a difference if it is a client, or a fellow Realtor? If some one asks you would you be interested in an opportunity to talk to one of my clients at an hourly rate of $200, what would your answer be? If I told you it is about a certain Project in your Geographic Area, the only request I have is let me now if you are or are not interested, what would your response be? Initially I have identified the Consulting Firm by name and told you I get a referral fee from the Firm of $200. In turn in these troubled times, in the near term you can make a few hundred dollars, just by talking to my client who is a sophisticated Investor. Potentially you might be able to develop a long term relationship, based on how articulate and knowledgeable are about your area. What would your response be? How quickly would you respond? Knowing the fact that you can check me out on AR see whether I am for real or not. Let me know how fast or slow, or what your response would be. Now that I set the stage, I sent three e-mails out to three different locations in two States. I reached out to specific agents on AR some I knew from their Posts and Comments and some I took the trouble and read what they claim to be about. I made a judgment that they would be a good fit and then Nothing Happened. Twenty four hours later I did not even get an acknowledgement…”thank you No,I am not interested” Nothing, no response. I would welcome your input and thoughts.I am very dissapointed, to say the...

I find it is becoming rare to get Great, Good or just any kind of Customer Service. Many years ago we were a nation of Manufacture, and then we shifted to the Service Industry, now it appears we have shifted to No Service. In this Global Economy, I see not just locally, but around the world we are loosing Customer Service as well. The reason I am bringing this up, I just experienced one of the worst customer service in a while. I have been meaning to address this issue in a post, but there were other issues more pressing. It does not matter what type of business, I see less and less good service. We are becoming a nation of rude, entitled people. That cashier, that manager do they not understand that we have choices and in this economy they can not afford to be rude and not carrying? If they loose their clients to a competitor, they in turn will loose their job. I as a Realtor understand and I try to give not just Great, but rather Superior Service and I thank my clients for their business and treat them as gold. I want to be their Realtor for Life as well as their friends’ and coworkers’ Realtor. I am aware that there are a lot of Realtors, hence there are many choices and I do not want to loose them because of lack of Service. Instead of focusing on the negative what happened to me today, let me know about your thoughts, good experiences, or bad experiences. Is it that I am right now livid from this bad experience and my judgment is clouded or am I right we are eroding good service? Let me ask again, So what are you doing to make a Difference? As the real estate market & the financial markets change we must change to achieve goals. What kinds of things are you doing to stay positive and look for opportunities? I am asking this to help all of us by sharing and generating ideas. I am spending more time contacting fellow Realtors, who might have inbound referral business. I offer my Language skills to fellow Realtors that have clients from German or Hungarian backgrounds. I am on the Social Networking Sites introducing myself to different business people that might need my service. I have even dusted off Jeffrey Gitomer’s “Little Red Book of Selling” With that, I would like to quote from his book :…..Creativity is a science that you can learn….he then goes on asking how important is creativity on in sales and service….. Have you ever read a book on creativity?….. I guess we all know the answer to that question Yes it is very important and No I have not read a book about the subject. I look forward to your...
read moreSuccessful & Average People Giving back to Society, is it in their DNA?
I met a Limousine Manager & Chauffeur the other day, somehow the conversation drifted to Tipping. He said ‘….you know, there are Tippers, who tip, it is in their DNA, and then there are those who do not…‘ He said he gives the best service to both and keeps trying to have the ‘non-tipper’ to reach into his pocket and tip. I started pondering this statement. How true. This made me wonder about Successful People Giving Back. Is it in their DNA to give back as well as the Tippers? What about the average Americans, who give their valuable time and volunteer to various Causes, is it in their DNA as well? We hear about the Celebrities that use their Publicists to brag as a ‘Self Promotion’ to let the world know that they have given back to society. Their Donations do not even max out what the IRS allows for Donation that is Tax Deductible. Then there are others, who amassed a fortune in their lives and their Generosity is beyond fathoming. I am going to site a few examples in no particular order. One of Bill Gates’ most dramatic moves came not in the realm of technology, rather in combating a killer disease. $258.3 million in research grants to prevent and treat malaria. He’s philanthropy puts him among the world’s most influential givers. An impassioned Bill Gates called malaria, which kills an estimated 2,000 African children a day, a “forgotten epidemic.” Paul Brainerd, founder of outdoor learning center Island Wood and the nonprofit venture capital group Social Venture Partners, an outdoor education facility located on 255 acres on Bainbridge Island. They host graduate programs in environmental education in partnership with the University of Washington. Eli Broad, who made his money in finance and real estate, pledged $300-million, one-third of which went to Harvard University to support a biomedical-research center he had established with a gift of the same size in 2003. Nearly two-thirds of the money went to augment the Broad Foundations, which support education, science, and the arts nationally, as well as civic projects in their native Los Angeles. What about the Volunteers that help The Big Brother & Big Sister Programs, the countless Animal Rescue Organizations and their Volunteers. Realtors giving money to all sorts of Causes. Real Estate Agents volunteering for endless list of Causes. It is just amazing what a caring generous people we have out there. So my fellow Rainer is it in their DNA? Let me know. read moreDo you have any advice to a Newer Agent? What is your in input?
I am on many websites venues and a relatively new agent wrote to me and wanted some advise about relocating and the Real Estate Business. My response to him made me think I should share this with the community. I think it is important to let you know my background. I started out in Boston, MA and then relocated to Los Angeles, with that came a learning curve. LA is vast geographically compared to Boston. As a Realtor you need to know the local communities, better then your clients, hence a challenge to embrace. Then there is the License issue, California had no reciprocity with Massachusetts, I had to take the Real Estate courses and the test over. After these challenges, I had to build my client base. Marketing is very strong in Los Angeles. There were many established agents who have been saturating the neighborhoods with their brand of marketing. To answer your question, I advise you to do: Some soul searching before relocating, especially if you are already established. Why start over? Become a specialist of a Market that you like, could become a Neighborhood Expert, or a Condominium Expert, or an Income Property, you get the idea. The key is being the most knowledgeable and best agent for the topic. Network with your fellow agents locally and far away. Always prospect, either via telephone, internet, socially any way that you are comfortable. Disregard all the negative influence around you and focus, continue to learn and keep up with the changes. Most importantly be positive. I receive this advise from my first Broker, when I was new in the business:”… if you go to sleep at night with three Escrows and the next morning all three fall apart and you can then get on the phone and continue prospecting, then you are here for the long haul…” As long as you are passionate at what you are doing you will succeed. If anyone has some comments to enhace my answer, please feel free to expand and I will gladly pass it on to him....

Canal Club at 2025 Pacific Ave on the Corner of N. Venice Blvd. Venice, CA. •310.823.3878 www.canalclubvenice.com This California Eclectic Restaurant is considered the Brother of James’ Beach the Restaurant directly across the street. (The owners James Evans and Daniel Samkow also own the restaurant across the street James’ Beach) This eclectic neighborhood restaurant was named the Canal Club due to the clubby feeling of the Venice neighborhood, as well as since it is literally a block away from the famous Venice canals. They serve great food just like its brother restaurant. The range is wider from Carne Asada to Sushi. They describe their menu as” … a broad definition of Pacific Rim cuisine …” The restaurant offer something for everyone and it pleases a variety of tastes, visitors or locals they all rave about the place. Every time I have been there, the Sushi bar was full, no place to sit. (By the way they have a 21 seat sushi bar) I never forget one of my more memorable visits, there were no tables, the bar was full, and we were hungry. The staff is great, magically they brought a table with two chairs and they placed them in one of the empty spots there we were reaching distance to one of my favorite celebrities who shall remain anonymous. He was there with his wife enjoying the great food and the eclectic crowd. I am a wine drinker they just as the brother restaurant James’ Beach have a great wine selection by the glass, also recognized by the Wine Spectator Award for excellence, but the Canal Club also specializes in exciting cocktails and Sake. Their more memorable drinks is the Venice Volcano with a flaming Bacardi 151 (brings back the old days). If you have not been there, you must go. read moreA very good Restaurant at Venice Beach, Venice, CA.
Three doors from the world famous Venice Beach, there are two very good Restaurants owned by the same two people. Two different Restaurants one is one South Side of the street the other is on the North side of the street. Literally these two are at the end of North Venice Boulevard and the corner of Pacific Avenue, in Venice, CA. Since this came first I will write about it first. Tourist trudge by them to go to the Beach, the ones who do not stop in, are missing out. 60 N Venice Blvd., Venice, CA. 90291 (310.399.8420) James’ Beach http://www.jamesbeach.com has been around since 1981. The owners James Evans and Daniel Samakow have created an upscale neighborhood beach restaurant half a block from the beach and one block from the Famous Venice Canals. The food is “Modern American Comfort” where else can you have French Fries and be upscale, only at James’ Beach. When you go you must try their Fried Calamari. Here you can have wine by the glass from $5 to $15. Even Wine Spectator http://www.winespectator.com gave them an award for their wine list. They also have a nice selection by the Bottle as well. Do not skip their Deserts, well worth it. James’ Beach has received write ups and awards from Los Angeles Magazine as Best in LA too numerous to list the number of times. Zagat’s write ups are complimentary as well. As you go to the Powder Room the Wall is covered with Write ups and Recognitions. If you like” mellow good times” go during the day and early evening, because at night it turns to a ‘rockin’ bar scene. The alternativ go early evening and experience both scenes. Either way make it a destination; you will thank me after you have been there.
