A very good Restaurant at Venice Beach, Venice, CA.
Three doors from the world famous Venice Beach, there are two very good Restaurants owned by the same two people. Two different Restaurants one is one South Side of the street the other is on the North side of the street. Literally these two are at the end of North Venice Boulevard and the corner of Pacific Avenue, in Venice, CA. Since this came first I will write about it first.
Tourist trudge by them to go to the Beach, the ones who do not stop in, are missing out. 60 N Venice Blvd., Venice, CA. 90291 (310.399.8420)
James’ Beach http://www.jamesbeach.com has been around since 1981. The owners James Evans and Daniel Samakow have created an upscale neighborhood beach restaurant half a block from the beach and one block from the Famous Venice Canals. The food is “Modern American Comfort” where else can you have French Fries and be upscale, only at James’ Beach. When you go you must try their Fried Calamari. Here you can have wine by the glass from $5 to $15. Even Wine Spectator http://www.winespectator.com gave them an award for their wine list. They also have a nice selection by the Bottle as well. Do not skip their Deserts, well worth it.
James’ Beach has received write ups and awards from Los Angeles Magazine as Best in LA too numerous to list the number of times. Zagat’s write ups are complimentary as well. As you go to the Powder Room the Wall is covered with Write ups and Recognitions.
If you like” mellow good times” go during the day and early evening, because at night it turns to a ‘rockin’ bar scene. The alternativ go early evening and experience both scenes. Either way make it a destination; you will thank me after you have been there.
