The Best Wine Store in Los Angeles: The Los Angeles WINE CO. Many of you who read my blog know I never give a perfect score for anything. It takes a lot to earn a perfect score from me. I have been going to the Los Angeles WINE CO now, for over six years and finally I decided to blog about them. The Los Angeles Wine Company has been around since 1982. I was turned on to them by a Wine Connoisseur. He asked me where I get my wines. When I told him, he said this place has every one that you would want to drink in all price points and they are probably anywhere from 15-25% less expensive than the other stores. They do not have Sales or Specials so when you go to their establishment you have to buy what is available. If you wait you might miss out when you come back the next time it might be gone. Since I have been a regular, I noticed that their inventory changes almost every 30 days and some inventory is brought back a couple of months later. I have learned to trust the staff’s advice, if it is a $5.99 bottle or a $259 bottle, the odds are they will be fantastic wines. I have not been disappointed yet. My wine shopping has always been the best. The only time it has not been when I went to another Wine store. So with that said check out their website and their blog, you will be glad you did. Parking Meters in Manhattan Beach, CA: Past, Present and Future! In fairness to disclosure, I am all for progress. Then again sometimes we get confronted with the past and we are pleasantly surprised that “old” is still good and it works. No need to change it since it still works. As you know I love to go to Manhattan Beach, CA all the time. I blog about this community and all the great things it has to offer to the visitors, locals and neighbors. This was a fun experience for me to discover as the past and the present are crossing paths and the future is nearby. Parking can be a challenge during the summer months, unless you know where the “available spots” are. As it turns out I do, FYI you need to park one street above Manhattan Ave if there are none available. The only thing you need is “Quarters” now with that said check out this Parking Meter where I parked. (Working Parking Meter by Endre Barath,Jr) Now if you are walking or driving on Trendy Manhattan Avenue this is the type of Parking Meters you will find. I have heard that there is a plan in place in the Greater Los Angeles area that once you pulled out of your parking spot the Time will automatically reset to Zero. In other words gone will be the days when you find an empty spot and generally you could be rewarded with anywhere from 1 minute to 45 minutes of free parking. So sad, no more chances of winning the Parking Lottery! Page’s Bookstore in Manhattan Beach is in its third year! Hard to believe that Page’s Bookstore only opened its doors in February of 2010. It feels like they have been here forever. Against all odds an independent bookstore opens as many were closing their doors, including the larger national chains were shrinking their stores all over the nation. We were thrilled that not too far from us another bookstore opens instead of the usual news that one closes. Needless to say we immediately became supporters. Three passionate women against all odds decide to follow their passion. Since books are our passion it was a natural fit to support them. Every opportunity we have we stop in and buy a book or two. Fuels our passion and supports their store. The Rumor Mill: an Independent Café and a Laundromat! I just want every one of my readers to know, I have been going to the Rumor Mill for their great Latte’s for many years. I met the owner she is so charming and it is a pleasure to go in to get my coffee. After all it is on my way to the office. I also noticed that there are PC’s available for customers to use at no charge. I always thought this was a very gracious offer to the clientele. Needless to say there is also WIFI for those who have their own laptops and notepads. What I loved is they always supported the arts. They would display paintings of local artists that were available for the public to buy. They also would provide photographers the same courtesy. So if you went in weekly, monthly you would be pleasantly surprised at the various artworks that would be on the walls. I always look forward to seeing the new artwork. Then one day I mentioned to Diane what a great place this is and it has a very cool concept. Laundry attached to the Café. Needless to say this was a mistake on my part. As soon as I mentioned it to Diane our Bedspread stopped going to the dry cleaners and the blankets as well. After all I am a regular there might as well do the bedding. As I thought this would not be so bad. Little did I know that our cats would decide I should go more often? (If you have cats, you know what I meant 🙂 So now with this new information, I ended up meeting the owner’s son, because he works in the afternoon. I also ended up having wonderful lunches. They are so great with gourmet healthy foods, if you have not been their place should be on your “must go destination places” great independent Café with a nice lunch menu on top. Also if you want you can even do your laundry at the same time. The Apple Pan is a Los Angeles Landmark Burger Joint. If you can just imagine, they opened their doors to Hamburger lovers in 1947. This is a testament by itself, that here they are still packed in 2012. Many time I have the urge to go and have a juicy burger, unfortunately the lines are often out of this world. Today I lucked out, the universe was lining up in my favor. So I found a parking spot behind the establishment as someone else was pulling out. Not only is this the oldest continuing operating restaurant in Los Angeles, but the “inspiration to “The Johnny Rockets Chain” of Burger Restaurant. The founder had in public claimed that he used The Apple Pan as the model for his 1940’s theme, copying the seating, the grilling area and even the menu. If you are on the west side of Los Angeles it is well worth the wait even if the lines are long. One of their most favorite Burgers that are loved by Angelinos is the Hickory Burger and of course the other is the Steak Burger. The hamburgers are wrapped in paper and served on a cardboard plate as the French fries as well. Plan on getting messy, if you order a burger, they have a trademarked hamburger relish that is out of this world. Well check out my picture and judge for yourself!
