How was this version of the Mona Lisa achieved I bet you will not know

Posted by on 8:56 pm in Active Rain | 0 comments

How was this version of the Mona Lisa achieved? I bet you a cup of coffee you will never guess unless someone  already shared it with you.   Someone sent me these pictures and I was just awestruck with them and I had to share. I know most of you will say it was Leonardo Da Vinci.  I could not figure it out until I scrolled to the answer. Now with that said good luck! Well OK here is the answer: it was made out of 3604 cups of coffee on one of the streets in Sydney Australia and made into a giant Mona Lisa Painting.  Move over Leonardo Da Vinci each cup of coffee was made with a different amount of milk to give the different shades to complete the painting.     If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Playa Vista, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. Finally I had time to review: Jack Higgins’ book The Judas Gate!

Posted by on 10:16 pm in Active Rain | 0 comments

Finally  I had time to review: Jack Higgins’ book the Judas Gate Ok in all fairness I had time to review this book, but instead I choose to read a few other books. If you never read Jack Higgins book, you are doing yourself a disservice, if you like fast paced action books. The characters of this book not only try but they generally save the world particularly the US and/or England from the evils of the rest of the world. There are four or five reoccurring members of this elite force run by a retired General of the British Military, who happens to run this ultra secret group. The main Character is Sean Dillon.  The story unfolds as twelve US Army Rangers and a British Medical Team were ambushed and killed. There is a recording of someone giving orders and he has an Irish Accent. Now the mystery begins and Sean Dillon and Company will try to solve it. Jack Higgins is a fast quality read,  I would suggest do not start this book if you cannot dedicate a few hours to reading, because you will not be able to put it down. I will also guarantee once you read this book you will be going back and searching for the previous books to read. There are about 18 or so books to catch up on.   I would rate this book 3.5 Stars out of 5, when you need a few hours of escape Jack Higgins is your go to guy, if you do not know what you want to read pick up any of his books and you will be hooked. Did you hear this: The USS Constitution is back in the water in Boston

Posted by on 6:17 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

Did you hear this: The USS Constitution is back in the water, in Boston Harbor’s water? Also known as “Old Ironside” Since we left Boston, MA I have been waiting to hear and see this great event. After many years of repair and preservation allowed this ceremonial photo opportunity. At 215 years young, the USS Constitution is the US Navy’s oldest commissioned warship afloat! How exciting is this. I wish I could have been there!   There was a picture of me at this point when I was a teenager:)) talk about being almost as old as the USS Constitution:)    If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Playa Vista, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. The best Pilsner beer ever: Victory Pilsner in Beverly Hills, CA

Posted by on 4:29 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

The best Pilsner beer ever:  Victory Pilsner in Beverly Hills, CA I consider myself predominatly a wine drinker, but on a hot summer day there is nothing better than an ice cold beer.   My favorite is a good Pilsner. Normally I drink the “original” from what used to be Czechoslovakia and now the Czech Republic.  Always in the market for a new discovery, I went to  one of my favorite local wine store for a good Pilsner recommendation and the rest is history. I wanted a good Pilsner for ‘change of pace, variety’, and I saw a six pack of Victory Pilsner “Prima”. Having lived in Germany for four years, the German language on the carrying pack is what first attracted me to the beer.  So I bought it, and once I tasted it I immediately became a loyal fan willing to blog about it. If you love the taste of a good Pilsner this is the beer for you! Please do not be put off with the price, keep in mind you can hardly get a bottle of decent wine for this price. Now about Victory’s Story:  two friends from grammar school, Ron Barchet & Bill Covaleski, lived separate lives and then join forces based on trust and knowledge.  They both learned the business through various stops, such as  the Baltimore Brewing Company, Munich Germany,  and Old Dominium Brewing Company in Virginia to name a few. They both succeed and decide it is time for VICTORY! Hence February 15, 1996 is the official beginning of the Victory Brewing Company. I am so glad they started spreading the “good word” via various wine stores and landed in the greater Los Angeles area. I can with good conscience say I had the best Pilsner beer ever! Who said Americans do not know how to brew good beer? If you are not a Pilsner fan I am enclosing their website so you can pick and choose the beers you like. I would venture to guess they will be just as outstanding as my Pilsner.   http://victorybeer.com     If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Playa Vista, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. Thinking of buying a Condominium in Westwood (Los Angeles) CA?

Posted by on 8:56 pm in Active Rain | 0 comments

Thinking of buying a Condominium in Westwood (Los Angeles) CA? There are many things you need to be aware of when buying a Condominium in general. The purpose of this post is to make you aware of the location and the pros and cons of buying a Condominium in Westwood, which also happens to be the home to UCLA. To many people it conjures up one of the more famous school sports rivalries in the country:  UCLA vs. USC that has existed here in Los Angeles seems like forever. USC is recognized as consistently being one of the top football programs in the nation, while UCLA is recognized as consistently being one of the top basketball programs in the nation a perfect recipe for school rivalries. The two schools are only about 15 miles apart from each other, but in Real Estate terms it is as large of a divide as the Pacific Ocean. UCLA is in one of the more expensive parts of Los Angeles. It is bordered by Brentwood, West Los Angeles, Bel Air and Beverly Hills to give you an idea. Location wise, it is in prime real estate.  There are many Condominium Buildings near UCLA. There are very few dormitories offered to the students, hence a three to four mile radius from UCLA is almost an extension of the Campus by way of leasing housing as well as purchase housing, which consists of mostly Condominiums. Hence, it is critical that you are familiar with the building you are considering purchasing. If you want to use it as an investment property to generate income targeting the UCLA students vs. if you want an investment property targeting the upwardly mobile of West Los Angeles residents, who are either not in a position or choose not to buy, but rather rent.  It will make a huge difference which Condominium Complex you will buy. If you are considering buying for yourself, it will be equally critical which building you choose, depending what your needs and preferences are will determine this. Now with that said, it is also critical that you have a knowledgeable Realtor, who can guide you to the right Condominium Complexes; otherwise you will be very disappointed.  Since the average two bedroom Condominiums range from the mid $400k to the high $800k, it is even more important which complex you end up buying in. Just as an example, I would like to share with you, that I have had showings, when my buyer wanted to see the Sauna, we discovered, that it was being used as low income rental. Keep in mind, he understood the situation, since he was a graduate of UCLA and wanted to buy for investment. He even told me a story about how they kept extra keys in the mailbox and were subletting the unit by shifts i.e.: morning, afternoon and evening 🙂   If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Playa Vista, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. Happy Birthday Julia Child: An American Icon “Mrs. Butter”

Posted by on 5:49 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

Happy Birthday Julia Child: An American Icon “Mrs. Butter” No one will be anyone like her. Her Motto:  ‘It is OK to make mistakes’; she opened the Door for Celebrity Chefs. No one is more responsible in contributing to home cooking and television cooking than Julia Child. In celebrating her Birthday I am going to enclose:’ The Perfect Hard Boiled Egg’ recipe, I must forewarn you it is not hard, it just takes a long time to make. I use her recipe 75 per cent of the time. It truly makes the perfect Hardboiled Egg. “The Perfect Hard Boiled Egg”   Recipe By: Julia Child, “The way to Cook”   Preparation time:  0:40 min   12 eggs   Water should cover the eggs by 1 inch, so use a tall pan and cook only 2 dozen eggs at a time.( I prefer to use maximum 1 dozen at a time)   1.        Lay the eggs in the pan and add the amount of cold water specified. Set over high heat and bring just to the boil: remove from heat, cover the pan, and let sit exactly 17 minutes.   2.        When the time is up, transfer the eggs to the bowl of ice cubes and water. Chill for 2 minutes while bringing the cooking water to the boil again.(this 2 minutes chilling shrinks the body of the egg from the shell.)   3.        Transfer the eggs (6 at a time only) to the boiling water, bring to the boil again, let boil for 10 seconds- this expands the shell from the egg. Remove eggs, and place back into the ice water.   Chilling the eggs promptly after each step prevents that dark line from forming and if time allows, leave the eggs in the ice water after the last step for 15-20minutes. Chilled eggs are easier to peel, as well.   Notes: the perfect hardboiled egg has a tender white, and a yolk properly set. There is not the faintest darkening of yolk where the white encircles it (a chemical reaction caused by too much heat in the cooking process). Eggs cooked this way can also be peeled neatly.   This takes a bit of fussing but well worth it. Now my addition to this great recipe is make sure you add salt to the water and that will prevent cracking of the shells!    As Julia would say : Bon Appetite! Reflections of a Gold Medal Winner on Active Rain!

Posted by on 9:14 pm in Active Rain | 0 comments

Reflections of a Gold Medal winner on Active Rain!   As the XXX th Olympiad is coming to an end this Sunday, I take this opportunity to reflect on the amazing drive, determinations, stamina, preparedness and perseverance of these great Olympic Athletes from all over the world. In addition to the previously mentioned common denominator, what I saw was the amazing willingness to sacrifice their time for the single minded goal of achieving Olympic Greatness. Their mental toughness is just unparalleled. These athletes not only have the support of their country, their coaches and friends, in addition most have family support as well.   This made me think and I could not help, but compare being a Realtor to an Olympic Athlete on a much smaller scale. How many times we sacrificed our free time to achieve our goal to succeed in our profession. Just as there are average athletes, there are average Realtors as well. Just as there are super star athletes there are super star Realtors. They each work hard, put in the time, sacrifice and train to be the best in areas of knowledge, marketing, community service and most of them have the support of their company, family and friends.   So I started some soul searching and wondered what do I have to do to be an Olympic Size Realtor? The biggest questions come clear as day to me: Do I have the Drive? Do I have the willingness to Sacrifice to achieve Olympic Size greatness in Real Estate? Is the Goal worth the Objective? Do I have the Passion?   Interestingly I was listening to a psychiatrist’s evaluation of athletes who have won Gold, Silver and Bronze. He indicated that the best place to be is being the winner of a Bronze Metal. The years of training, support of all culminates with making it to the podium now that is Total Satisfaction with harmony. Those who received Silver felt as if they failed by not achieving Gold, hence they were not Satisfied, they need to continue tweaking and improving all that they did for the next four years so they do not fail again. Keep in mind they won the Silver, not really failing in my book. Then of course there were the Gold Winners. They were satisfied for now, but they needed to achieve more success, more Gold Metals so they will be working hard to repeat again. So what I have to do is find out what my Value System needs: Gold, Silver or Bronze? Now keep in mind if I shoot for the Gold and only get Silver or bronze will I be disappointed? Will I be able to live with the missed objective? Then I realized how lucky I am that I am not an Olympic Athlete, I do not have to wait four years. My Goals are much easier to achieve: every year I have a new opportunity to achieve Gold and I have bench marks monthly and quarterly to see if I am on track or not! Hence I feel lucky that I am a Realtor and can work every day and every week towards my Gold Medal! I have the support of my sellers, my buyers and my family so what more do I want? Then...

I am of the generation when the movie “Jaws” came out, hence I am not trying to be an alarmist, just want to put a word of caution out there. Please watch the video in case you are one of the non believers keep in mind it is about 53 seconds long and full of F

Westfield has been awarded the Concession Management contract at LAX!

Posted by on 4:27 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

Westfield Concession Management LLC has been awarded the Concession Contract at LAX In Case you missed this news, this is not your ordinary Concession Contract. It is a seventeen year contract to develop, lease and manage food and beverage and retail concession in three terminals at Los Angeles International Airport. Westfield is expected to spend initially in improvements about $80million and probably another $20 million in midterm refurbishments. Keep in mind that in January Westfield also won a similar 17 year concession agreement at the Tom Bradley International Terminal. Peter Lowy, Westfield Group chief executive officer said that they are fully committed to bring their global resources and development expertise to deliver an iconic world-class airport experience. Now this really caught my attention and I started researching about Westfield Concession Management LLC. I could write a book about them, very interesting company. I will definitely write another blog post about how they started, since it is very inspirational.   For now I just want you to know that the currently manage the concessions at the following Air Ports:   ·         -Boston-Logan International Airport- Terminal A & C   ·         -Chicago O’Hare International Airport- Terminal 5   ·         -George Bush Houston Intercontinental Airport-Terminal B,E and FIS   ·         -John F. Kennedy International Airport – Terminal 8   ·         -Miami International Airport-Central Terminal (retail)   ·         -Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport   ·         -Washington Dulles International Airport   So if you have been in any of these Airports recently, then you know what to expect here at Los Angeles International Airport. The projected revenue will be huge to Los Angeles World Airports, depending whose numbers you take into account it could be around $350,000,000. Now obviously Westfield is a for profit organization, hence you can imagine what their profits will be.
