The Newspaper business is fading? Read this and then tell me if it is fading or here to stayJ? I had a friend who sent me this great assessment of the Newspapers around the country! I have read SEVEN of the twelve she mentioned: 1. The Wall Street Journal is read by the people who run the country. 2. The Washington Post is read by people who think they run the country. 3. The New York Times is read by people who think they should run the country and who are very good at crossword puzzles. 4. USA Today is read by people who think they ought to run the country, but don’t really understand The New York Times. They do, however, like their statistics shown in pie charts. 5. The Los Angeles Times is read by people who wouldn’t mind running the country, if they could find the time — and if they didn’t have to leave Southern California to do it. 6. The Boston Globe is read by people whose parents used to run the country and did a poor job of it, thank you very much. 7. The New York Post is read by people who don’t care who are running the country as long as they do something really scandalous, preferably while intoxicated. 8. The Miami Herald is read by people who are running another country, but need the baseball scores. 9. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is read by people who only want to know the score of the Cardinal’s game. They drink Budweiser, Budweiser, more Budweiser and wait a minute — what was the question? 10. The San Francisco Chronicle is read by people who aren’t sure if there is a country or that anyone is running it; but if so, they oppose all that they stand for. There are occasional exceptions if the leaders are handicapped minority feminist atheist homosexual dwarfs who also happen to be illegal aliens from any other country or galaxy, provided of course, that they are not Republicans. 11. The National Enquirer is read by people trapped in line at the grocery store. 12. The Seattle Times is read by people who have recently caught a fish and need something to wrap it in. Have you seen the Montage Residences in Beverly Hills, CA? Take a second look! In April 2010 I have written a blog post about the Montage Residences in Beverly Hills http://actvra.in/Mry there were about 19 units still available, so here I am in December 2012 writing another blog post about the Montage Residences in Beverly Hills, CA. There are only two Residences left for you to purchase. Many things have happened since my last blog post. The Montage went from being an in house listing organization to out sourcing it to one of the top five International Real Estate Brokerages. Ironically the developer’s goal was to market the international community, such as Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Hence an aggressive marketing & research has resulted with a failure in seeing who their target market was. The target market turned out was in the back yard. Upscale home owners in Beverly Hills, Brentwood and Malibu decided they did not want the head ache of home ownership but wanted 100% papering. They in turn ended up buying in the Montage. The other buyers were from the East Coast who wanted a foothold in Beverly Hills, CA. They did not want to buy a house, since they only spend limited time in the Greater Los Angeles. Hence they were the perfect buyers of the Montage Residences. Now with that said if you have Luxury Buyers who would like to have a foothold in Southern California, specifically in Beverly Hills please reach out to me in helping them to make the Montage their home! There is one available at $13, 200, 000.00 and one at $ 7.500, 000.00. So what do you get for this? Perhaps the best attribute of living in the Forbes Five Star, AAA Five Diamond and DEED Gold certified hotel is the unparalleled access to impeccable served that has been the hallmark of the Montage. If you would like more details about what they have to offer please reach out to me directly! Angel City Chorale: Holiday Concert 2012 The Angel City Chorale’s Motto is: Building a Community one song at a Time. This past year they have toured South Africa in August 2011, and February 2012 they joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic on stage at the Shrine Auditorium in a performance of Gustave Mahler’ Symphony No 8 and I could go on and on. We were invited by one of Diane’s coworkers. I was looking forward to a trip out of the ordinary, not reallyJ it was a rainy night and I had to drive to the Wilshire United Methodist Church through a drizzly, dark night. Once we got there I found out that just this December was their 20th year and their sixteenth anniversary of their flagship program, “The Holiday Tour of Hope” The have visited over 30 organizations in Los Angeles including soup kitchens, havens for the homeless, nursing homes, hospitals, Juvenile Hall and sober living and domestic violence support facilities. Not only do they provide a holiday concert repertoire but they give personal items, supplies and toys to the various organizations. What a fantastic Group of Musicians! After a wonderful two hours of Music including a few Sing Along-s, we were invited next door to cheese, crackers, fresh vegetables and deserts that were truly unexpected! As far as I am concerned Angel City Chorale just acquired two new fans and supporters of the Chorale and their Cause! I plan on getting their CD’s and provide support to them in the coming years! www.angelcitychorale.org Sue Fink Conductor and creator of this great Chorale! The Ficus, Eucalyptus and Bottlebrush Trees disappeared in Marina Del Rey, CA . I was driving to one of my Condo listings for a showing and I took a double take. What happened to those beautify trees on Admiralty Way in Marina Del Rey, CA? Then it hit me, a while back, I remembered hearing something, that the County will be removing the Trees and replace them with “Native trees”. Evidently there are about 75-80 Trees on this “hit list” and the other day it was a big wipe out day for these beautiful trees. I find it bitter sweet that this project is taking place. The majority of these trees were the Ficus trees. They were originally planted, when the man-made harbor of Marina Del Rey was created in the 1960’s. So basically a large history of Marina Del Rey, CA has just been wiped out. The reasoning for this drastic action taking was due to the Ficus trees having these amazing roots, which cause havoc on the sewage system and the road. Sadly this has many other side effects. There is a large bird population that has created homes on these trees. According to the Los Angeles County Officials they are cognizant of these species of birds which build nest in the trees and they are monitory this closely and are sensitive to the bird. According to ‘the powers to be’, The Board of Supervisors has conducted an environmental analysis and claim that ‘the native trees’ will be better for the environment as well as the infrastructure. I am curious first of all, where will the birds move to while the county will put these “new trees” in place? Second what are these “native trees”? They are called Bronze Loquat and Marina Strawberry Trees. I have never heard of them and I cannot recall seeing them before. Either way if you will revisit Marina Del Rey, CA in the spring, you will notice that it will have a totally new feel and look, since you were here the last time.( If you were here in the past 50 plus years) If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. Just a casual Saturday in Marina Del Rey, CA! Sometimes we need to stop and appreciate what we have near us. We are so busy with our day to day activities that we forget to look around and be thankful for what we have. Due to a scheduling mix up on my part we went to a performance that turned out great, even though not what we were expecting see and hear, check out my blog about it here, if you missed it. http://actvra.in/LZp I took a few pictures with my Blackberry as we were listening to the band. I did not post them, because the focus was on the band. 84 Charing Cross Road: The book, the play, the movie or the bookstore? Well some of you might remember there was a book that came out in the 1970’s called 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff. Later it was made into a Play and then around 1987 Ann Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins made a movie about it. The story is about a relationship that lasts about 20+ years through correspondence between the book seller Anthony Hopkins and the book buyer Ann Bancroft it is a very moving story where the two develop a friendship. If you have not seen it I would recommend it, if you are a fan of Anthony Hopkins of Dr Lechter of the Silence of the Lambs fameJ. On our last trip to London, Diane and I searched, but the bookstore was not there or we just could not find it and after returning state side, I kept researching it, and sadly I learned that it closed some time ago. So you can image my surprise, the other day I was looking on Amazon.com trying to find one of Mark Bowden’s Books and the Bookseller who was selling it was 84 Charing Cross Road, London, England. I was so thrilled that even though the book was not a Hardcover Ed. Which we collect, instead it was just a paperback, but the fact that it was from the same bookstore I had to have itJ. See for yourself do not take my word for it, the book was in mint condition, shipped just like in the Novel & the Movie; it was the best $10 I spent. Have you Micro Chipped your Pet? Well you should, since Pet theft is on the rise! The American Kennel Club has been tracking pet thefts since 2007 and sadly report that there has been an increase in dog theft last year. I find this totally outrageous; imagine 32% increase in dog theft last year alone! Although some animals are stolen from the back yards or during a home invasion, turns out most of common animal theft occurs through other means. This is what the police call “opportunistic thieves” or better stated preventable Theft! When going into town leave your dog at home. This is the best advice; if you do not take it, than at least keep a close eye on your pet, do not leave them in your car, nor should you tie them to a pole while you go inside a store shopping bring someone along who can keep an eye on your dog. Sound simple, it prevents theft, Period! Either way you should Micro Chip your Pet, in addition you should have a current dog license and an identification tag for your dog since these actions will potential help you in finding you missing pet. Never have your dog off leash, they might bolt and run away, because they have instincts you cannot control all the time. For your convenience I am enclosing the following companies who provide micro chipping services. Talk to your Veterinarian about it after you visited these websites.
