The Ficus, Eucalyptus & Bottlebrush Tees disappeared in Marina Del Rey

Posted by on 1:13 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

The Ficus, Eucalyptus and Bottlebrush Trees disappeared in Marina Del Rey, CA . I was driving to one of my Condo listings for a  showing and I took a double take. What happened to those beautify trees on Admiralty Way in Marina Del Rey, CA? Then it hit me, a while back, I remembered hearing something, that the County will be removing the Trees and replace them with “Native trees”. Evidently there are about 75-80 Trees on this “hit list” and the other day it was a big wipe out day for these beautiful trees. I find it bitter sweet that this project is taking place. The majority of these trees were the Ficus trees. They were originally planted, when the man-made harbor of Marina Del Rey was created in the 1960’s. So basically a large history of Marina Del Rey, CA has just been wiped out. The reasoning for this drastic action taking was due to the Ficus trees having these amazing roots, which cause havoc on the sewage system and the road. Sadly this has many other side effects. There is a large bird population that has created homes on these trees. According to the Los Angeles County Officials they are cognizant of these species of birds which build nest in the trees and they are monitory this closely and are sensitive to the bird. According to ‘the powers to be’, The Board of Supervisors has conducted an environmental analysis and claim that ‘the native trees’ will be better for the environment as well as the infrastructure. I am curious first of all, where will the birds move to while the county will put these “new trees” in place? Second what are these “native trees”?  They are called Bronze Loquat and Marina Strawberry Trees. I have never heard of them and I cannot recall seeing them before. Either way if you will revisit Marina Del Rey, CA in the spring, you will notice that it will have a totally new feel and look, since you were here the last time.( If you were here in the past 50 plus years)   If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. Posted by on 7:08 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

November 30th, Thanksgiving was just the other day So what is for Dinner tonite?   For all those who forget like me, Thanksgiving was on the 22nd of November. After Thanksgiving we had, Turkey Sandwiches with Lettuce, tomatoes and avocados for dinner, than we had Turkey Soup made with Turkey stock (bones and leftover Turkey meat and all), than we had Turkey Spring Rolls and then we had Turkey Ragu with Rigatoni Pasta. So here we are at the Finnish line, what do we do with some of the leftover Turkey Ragu? Then the next question is, what do we do with the Decorative Pumpkins? Well how about a Pumpkin, Turkey, Ragu Bean soup? Easy Dinner: leftover Turkey Stock, two Pumpkins, can of Navy Beans and a few ladles of Turkey Ragu from the other day and all the ingredients are all there! Ok for those who you would like a bit of help: 1. Sauté’ some garlic & onions, 2. Add some carrots, celery root or celery stalks 3. Parsley root or some Parsnips whichever is available, 4. One or two potatoes cut into small pieces, 5. Parsley & bay leaf and one can of navy beans and one can of garbanzo beans. 5. Add the leftover Turkey Ragu and or add some frozen mixed vegetables: if you do not have it, substitute a can of tomatoes and sausages and it will be just as good! Take the Pumpkin, clean out the inside save the hatJ for decoration, use some olive oil, bake it in the oven for about 25 minutes at 350 degrees, then switch over and add a bit of salt on the inside and bake for another 20 minutes. Just a casual Saturday in Marina Del Rey, CA! Sometimes we need to stop and appreciate what we have near us. We are so busy with our day to day activities that we forget to look around and be thankful for what we have.  Due to a scheduling mix up on my part we went to a performance that turned out great, even though not what we were expecting  see  and hear, check out my blog about it here, if you missed it. http://actvra.in/LZp  I took a few pictures with my Blackberry as we were listening to the band.  I did not post them, because the focus was on the band. Anyway one of my Active Rain Friends called me to tell me something about one of my Blog Posts that had some technical glitches which I needed to correct. She then commented how beautiful the day was here in Marina Del Rey, CA… while it was a bit slushy where she was atJ So here are to all my Active Rain Friends who are now facing the cold and quite different climate from ours. 84 Charing Cross Road: The Book, the play, the movie or the bookstore?

Posted by on 12:24 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

84 Charing Cross Road: The book, the play, the movie or the bookstore? Well some of you might remember there was a book that came out in the 1970’s called 84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff. Later it was made into a Play and then around 1987 Ann Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins made a movie about it. The story is about a relationship that lasts about 20+ years through correspondence between the book seller Anthony Hopkins and the book buyer Ann Bancroft it is a very moving story where the two develop a friendship. If you have not seen it I would recommend it,  if you are a fan of Anthony Hopkins of Dr Lechter of the Silence of the Lambs fameJ. On our last trip to London, Diane and I searched, but the bookstore was not there or we just could not find it and after returning state side, I kept researching it, and sadly I learned that it closed some time ago. So you can image my surprise,   the other day I was looking on Amazon.com trying to find one of Mark Bowden’s Books and the Bookseller who was selling it was 84 Charing Cross Road, London, England.     I was so thrilled that even though the book was not a Hardcover Ed. Which we collect, instead  it was just a paperback, but the fact that it was from the same bookstore I had to have itJ.   See for yourself do not take my word for it, the book was in mint condition, shipped just like in the Novel & the Movie; it was the best $10 I spent. Have you Micro Chipped your Pet? You should Pet Theft is on the rise!

Posted by on 12:06 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

Have you Micro Chipped your Pet? Well you should, since Pet theft is on the rise! The American Kennel Club has been tracking pet thefts since 2007 and sadly report that there has been an increase in dog theft last year.  I find this totally outrageous; imagine 32% increase in dog theft last year alone! Although some animals are stolen from the back yards or during a home invasion, turns out most of common animal theft occurs through other means. This is what the police call “opportunistic thieves” or better stated preventable Theft! When going into town leave your dog at home. This is the best advice; if you do not take it, than at least keep a close eye on your pet, do not leave them in your car, nor should you tie them to a pole while you go inside a store shopping bring someone along who can keep an eye on your dog. Sound simple, it prevents theft, Period! Either way you should Micro Chip your Pet, in addition you should have a current dog license and an identification tag for your dog since these actions will potential help you in finding you missing pet. Never have your dog off leash, they might bolt and run away, because they have instincts you cannot control all the time. For your convenience I am enclosing the following companies who provide micro chipping services. Talk to your Veterinarian about it after you visited these websites. Keep in mind Cat can run away unexpectedly as you open your front door to let people in or as you are just coming home. Losing a pet can be devastating so why not do some prevention. This is the best advice I can give.    America Veterinary ID Devices (AVID) 800.336-AVIDhttp://www.avidid.com   IDENTICHIP 800.926.1313   http://www.identichip.com   Companion Animal Recovery 800.252.7894 http://www.akccar.org   If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. Posted by on 1:00 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

Gondoliers in Marina Del Rey, CA, Can you imagine a  Romantic Gondola Ride in Marina Del Rey? Are you a Romantic? If you are, then this is definitely  for you. Diane and I were strolling by the Channel in Marina Del Rey, CA when we noticed a Gondola like in Venice, Italy moving in the Channel with a Gondolier Singing Italian Love Songs.  We saw a couple snuggled up, very romantic and cozy. Needless to say I had my BlackBerry with me and snapped these photos to share. As you can see it looks like the same ride as being at the Venetian in Las Vegas or the original Gondola Rides of Venice Italy.   When we came back from our walk I had to do some research. Evidently you can have day time; evening or sunset rides from an hour and a half to two and a half hours, with wine, Champaign, fruit platter or a real meal. Most people opt for the one and a half hour romantic ride; most people had favorable comments on Yelp. So if you are in Marina Del Rey and want to do something romantic and not just the ordinary evening than check out Gondolas D’Amore in Marina Del Rey, CA.   http://gondolasdamore.com   14045 Panay Way Marina del Rey, CA 90292   (310) 736-7301   If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. The Esplanade a great Complex inside the Playa Vista, CA community!

Posted by on 6:19 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

The Esplanade a great  Complex inside the in Playa Vista, CA urban community! First of all, most of you who read my blog consistently, know I have written often about the Playa Vista, CA Urban Community. This was the first urban development in 50 years in the Greater Los Angeles, CA. Now inside the Playa Vista community is The Esplanade, full character and charm. There is a tower and many arched loggias. There are single level condominiums and town homes and some face inward to the Romanic courtyards. Others face the community or the Mountains. I think of the Architecture having a strong European influence in this complex. Some of you might think of it being classic California Mediterranean style of the 1930’s. Now the Esplanade is in the heart of the Concert Park District of Playa Vista, CA. If you would like more information of the Playa Vista community please reach out to me directly. Currently I have two homes for you to move in! Have you ever listened to Seville? Well we have. They are Great!

Posted by on 5:21 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

Have you ever listened to  Seville? Well we have. They are Great!  Diane and I went to the Fisherman’s Village, this afternoon. As some of you know I did a blog post yesterday….I had my days mixed up, so we arrived at Fisherman’s Village in Marina Del Rey, CA we were expecting a Latin Jazz Band, instead to our surprise we find  ‘Seville’! May I say it was a pleasant surprise; we were listening to old school from the ‘50’s to the millennium? Rhythm & Blues, Jazz you name it. ‘Seville’ has been together for over 36 years and they were just phenomenal. As you can imagine it was not a disappointment, rather a pleasant surprise. Philemon Young, Jr., Michael Martin, Sr. and Johnnie Morrisette, Jr. were the best. I cannot think of a better mistake, I have made in yearsJ. So after we enjoyed the music and we came home and I had to do some research.  I discovered that Seville has unlimited amount of credits. They have performed as part of  “The heroes and Legends Awards” at the Universal Sheraton  at Universal Studios in CA along with notables as Gladys Knight, Bubba Knight and I could go on and on. They also appeared on PAX television special with the “Silhouettes, Barbara Lewis of ‘Baby I’m Yours’ fame. I have also discovered that ‘Seville’ has at least three recordings ‘Falling In Like’, ‘Love in a Seville way’ and ‘Toss Salad’. I will be looking for their CD to add to our collection. Evidently this was their Third Saturday after Thanksgiving in a row. They are trying to make it a tradition, I hope they doJ because then we will tooJ If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu.
