California Bicycle Laws Share the road is a two way street!
California Bicycle Laws: Share the road is a two way street! The governor of California quietly signed a law into effect that drivers need to give bicycle riders more room such as at least three feet and not pass them unless it is safe…. This is above and beyond the current Bicycle Safety Laws. I am all for safety and giving bicyclist protection, but let me ask you how much more do we need to give. Please look at these pictures and you tell me. Yes I believe safety starts with rules and rules go both ways. Often times I see bicyclist riding on the sidewalk when it is convenient to them. This is clearly a violation of CVC 21206. If a travel lane is too narrow to safely share side by side with a motor vehicle, you can prevent unsafe passing by riding. On a two-lane road where it is illegal or unsafe to pass, you must run off the road at designated or safe location to allow a line of 5 or more vehicles behind you to pass This is covered by CVC 21202(a)(3) and CVC21656 Now in all fairness what would you do as a driver in rush hour heading either to or from work and you have a bicyclist in front of you? Breaking News Tom Clancy: dead at the age of 66 One of our friends sent me an email about an hour or so ago that Tom Clancy passed away today. This made me reflect. In my observation very few people like to talk about death. It is not a pleasant subject. We all think we have a long time and it is far away. The older we get to more it becomes a reality that we are not immortal. Hence we should be mentally and emotionally prepared that it is an inevitability and the question is just when. Needless to say famous, infamous or just ordinary we can die without a moment’s notice from various causes, accidents, being at the wrong place at the wrong time, health reasons and I could go on and on. Ironically I was just about to start one of his books yesterday. This one he has written a while back “The Cardinal of the Kremlin” work and life stepped in and needless to say did not start reading it as planned. So getting your house in order one should not postpone because it can happen anytime. Just as I tend to procrastinate I am sure many of you are out there as well. Many o f you might have read or seen “The Hunt for Red October” this one probably is been one of his most well known novels. President Ronald Reagan probably helped him get to be on the best seller list. There was a photo of the late President holding the book in his hand as he was crossing the lawn at the white house. IF any of you have this picture feel free to post it in the comments. I just remember it clear as day! (Ironically I lent this book out and never got it back) On a side note I remember seeing him drive on Sunset Blvd in a convertible with his trademark Admiral Baseball Cap. A memorial for Patrolman Harold L Edgington, Los Angeles Harbor Patrol, California Marina Del Rey, CA. On September 30th 1979 Officer Edington was assaulted and the severely-wounded officer was being worked on by Fire Department personnel and rushed to ER with the hopes that they could save his life. Officer Edington passed away and thirty four years later his senseless and tragic death was memorialized by Firefighters and Law Enforcement Officers. On a side note this is such a rare occurrence in Marina Del Rey, CA never the less that is no consolation to his family and relatives and brother Police & Fire Department officers and friends who knew him. What you missed that were not in my pictures was after the memorial ceremony there was a Sheriff’s Department honor guard standing by the picture of Officer Edgington. Later in the evening I was driving by and another officer was there until Sunset. I am sorry I was busy and could not take a picture of it for you. The Hollywood Sign turned: 90 years old this past Thursday I had intended on publishing this post on Thursday, but due to unforeseen events, I was just able to do it. So happy belated 90th Birthday Dear Hollywood Sign. The W-Hotel in Hollywood did not miss a great opportunity to mark this great milestone. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce & the Hollywood Sign Trust threw a Birthday Party on Thursday (September 26th, 2013) Some of you who have been reading my Blogs Posts over the years have seen me write about the Iconic Hollywood Sign. Those of you who missed them I am including a link to one of themJ (http://actvra.in/44PZ) this was in 2010 and there were some major controversial business activities going on about the status of the sign. As you can see today it all worked outJ. A local Realtor and his partner missed out on a $22million dollar sale, but it is good for Los Angeles historic preservation and the world. The listing agent was a bit miffedJ To recap the history of the Hollywood Sign : it was originally posted as HOLLYWOODLAND as a Marketing Ploy to attract high end buyers to live in the “New Development” over the years due to land erosions the sign lost the “LAND” part and became “HOLLYWOOD”. Tourists from all over the world come to photograph this iconic, historic landmark. Last year it went through some major renovation. Hence it looks virtually brand new for being 90 years oldJ. Now keep in mind this was done during the downturn of the economy. The preservationists deserve major kudos for raising the funds and carrying out this huge task. Since I am a Realtor who has sold many a vacant lot and Single Family Residences over the years in the Beachwood Canyon area, (where the Hollywood Sign is located) I appreciate the extra Value the Hollywood Sign brings to the table. Buyers and sellers understand there is a financial not just esthetic and historic value to being near the sign and to be able to see it from your back or front yard has a value. So with that said Happy 90th Birthday Dear Hollywood Sign! If you are considering buying or selling a luxury home, or an ultra luxury home, or luxury investment real estate, or luxury vacation homes, or luxury beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. Times like this we get the impetus, to explore other options for using as a blogging platform such as WordPress, BlogSpot anything but Active Rain… I cannot express my frustration at how poorly these changes were thought out and implemented. The Golden Turkey Award should be given to the people who dreamed up these changes, without thinking it through or testing them out. I am sure their Objectives & the Intentions were good, but the results were……. (You can finish my sentence) IS THIS the NEW Trulia Corporate influence?? Why not start it at the beginning of the month so we could gradually get used to the changes not effecting Active Rain Contests etc…. The Beverly Hills Courthouse in Beverly Hills CA succumbs to Budget Cuts As most of us have been affected by the downturn of the economy in the past few years, one unlikely institution has succumbed to Budget Cuts as well. Quietly without much fanfare the Beverly Hills Court House has closed its doors to hearing Court Cases. The famous visitors who made appearances in this venerable institution consisted of some of the famous or should I say the infamous Hollywood Celebrities such as: Zsazsa Gabor, Robert Downey, Jr., and Lindsey Lohan to name a few. There were many others whose names slip my mind right now. Often times as I was driving down Burton Way I could see heavy traffic congestions. Then as I drove by the Beverly Hills Courthouse I could see the Paparazzi with cameras in hand and long lines of tourist standing by the entrance door wanting to have a glimpse at some of the famous accused celebrities. Now the courthouse only handles traffic tickets. How strange to see a virtually empty building with hardly no life in it. The strange upside is that, now there are fewer tourists and less traffic on Burton Way. How sad, now I miss the drama, the traffic inconvenience and the pesky paparazzi and the tourists. I am sure the Celebrities who need to make Court Appearances will miss the Beverly Hills Courthouse too, since now they will need to go to the Downtown Courthouses where the “common criminals” are being tried. Not as convenient as being five to ten minute drive from their upscale homes to face justice. Now it will be a commute to Downtown Los Angeles. Well that is punishment already!
