Chocolate Covered Strawberry Pie inspired by Pinterest!
Chocolate Covered Strawberry Pie inspired by Pinterest I was looking at pictures on Pinterest , trying to figure it out. Next thing I know I saw this great picture of a Strawberry Pie. So I decided to Pin it. Next thing I know is one of my friends on Face book commented on what a great picture and recipe this is. She knows I am a cook, hence she requested a pie or at least leftovers…. Hence this created a quest for finding a recipe on how to make Strawberry Pie. I knew the most important part of making the pie is to have sweet, fresh & good strawberries. Then since making chocolate covered strawberry pie ones has to have good Chocolate, hence I believe to make the best you need to get the best. Hence I needed Ghirardelli Chocolate to complete the perfect Pie. So then after looking at various recipes I decided that this one looked like the best: 1 cup of heavy cream ½ cup of sugar 1.5 tea spoons of Vanilla Extract Whipped together until it was thick and firm Then in another container whip together Philadelphia Cream Cheese (I used 1/3 less fat) ½ cup of sugar 1 cup of melted dark chocolate chips (soften for about 1.5 min in microwave) Whip all this together Then combine both items. While you are doing this bake the Pie Crust. My favorite is Marie Callender’s Frozen Pie Crust. Once the Pie Crust is baked & done, add the filling and stuff it with as many Strawberries as you can fill it with. In the meantime melt two more cups of Chocolate Chips and drizzle over the top. Once you are done than place pie in Refrigerator to set and in about 10-20 minutes it is ready to be served. Three easy steps to make Chocolate Covered Strawberries! The first step is always the hardest to find good sweet strawberries. Usually in California that is easy there are Trucks on the side of the Road and they sell the sweetest strawberries you can imagine. The second step is to separate them into smaller quantities. How hard is that? Please buy enough so you have some left because you might eat the product you are trying to make. Then the third step is quite easy, buying some dark chocolate from Ghirardelli the ones that most people use for Chocolate Chipped cookies. Take about a cup full give or take and depending on your microwave zapped them two or three times for 30 seconds. Stir the melted chocolate and either dip them in the concoction or just drizzle over the strawberries and you are done. Did you know today is Bastille Day, also known as the biggest party in Paris, France? Every year July 14th is remembered by all French nationals not only in France but all over the world. Having lived in Boston, MA, I remember clearly how the French Embassy would shut down a three block section of Newbury St and would have the best street party Boston has ever seen. There would be free food, music and just a great time which would last well into the evening. Since I have been living in Los Angeles, I have planned on finding out where the great picnic is being held, but life always takes over and ’… well maybe next year…’ mentality takes over. Now with that said let me give a small history of Bastille Day and hope that next year I will have pictures of the Los Angeles celebration of Bastille Day. The people of Paris stormed the Bastille on July 14th 1790. The Bastille was a prison where people had been jailed by the King. The Bastille was mostly known for holding political prisoners and those whose writings displeased King Louis XVI. Thus the Bastille had become a symbol of the unfair repression of the monarchy. While many people think it is just to commemorate this event, actually it is a celebration of the new post-revolutionary French state. It became a symbol of the birth of the nation of France. If you would like to see a truly grand celebration of a Nation’s Birthday rivaling if not surpassing our 4th of July celebration, then please click on this link or plan your next vacation to Paris France for next year’s celebration around the 14th of July. http://photoblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/07/14/12741335-bastille-day-celebrations-take-over-paris?lite If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Playa Vista, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. Books tell: What you are like, they tell about your personality. What do you read? What does that tell about your personality? I have been an avid reader since I was a child. Now a hundred years later I appreciate that my parents introduced me to books at an early stage. I have read many a classics and some that were forgotten as soon as I read them. As some of you who read my blog regularly know that I collect cookbooks and first edition fictions, novels and spy books. Here are a few classic moments from this past April’s Festival of Books event that was held downtown Los Angeles at the University of Southern California also known as USC to most. See if you recognize any of these authors? If not let me know and I will give hints. Now back to my question what do books tell about you, as a person? Obviously if you read only Fiction it will be different if you only read Non Fiction. If you read Historical Novels it will be different that in you read History books. My take is, it does not matter what your personality is and what you read, what is more important is that you read. I saw a comment by someone who said for every episode of The Jersey Shore you see a book commits suicide! I can safely say all our books are safe from that. So if you would like to share and let us know what you read and what you would like to read. Also see if you recognize some of these people. Have you ever had Pro+mis+Q+ous Red Wine? If you never had this great Red Wine and you like a good Meritage, than this is the wine for you. For those who know me I would not mislead you. This is the best wine I had under $20,$15,$12…..a bottle. Of course you would be shocked to know I only paid $8.99 a bottle. Oh, before I continue let me give you some definitions: The word Pro+mis+Q+ous according to the Winemaker’s definition is (Referring to many partners) the act of blending multiple, mutually attractive grape varieties in an assortment of unorthodox combinations. Implies woton disregard for convention, may result in intense flavors. Now my definition is not “may” it is intense. http://www.promisqous.com/ Meritage (pronounced like Heritage not like the French way) many people will argue about this. The reality is, it came about intentionally to separate California wines from the Bordeaux wines hence the pronunciation is American not French. Now to the ingredients: The majority will consist of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec the idea was that this blend is not just an ordinary table wine rather it is a quality wine, hence better and more intense flavors and a higher price. Needless to say I would put this wine up against quite a few Meritage Wines in a blind taste testing and I am willing to bet that you would choose this one over the more expensive wines. So with that said please try to find it in your wine store and even if they charge you $12 to $14 a bottle it will be well worth it. Does your Home Owner’s Insurance provide coverage for Flood? This is an important question you need to check in your insurance policy. Many home owners often mistakenly believe that flood insurance is only needed or are only available for properties that are located in a flood hazard area or otherwise known as “flood zone”. The best way to compare this response would be like saying, that your policy only covers Fires if you are located in a high Fire hazard zone, otherwise you do not need it. To clarify this misconception, let me tell you that, flood is one of the most common natural disasters in the US. Floods can result from torrential rainstorms and or hurricanes. Keep in mind it is not geographically limited. Floods can be caused by melting snow as another example. Areas that had recently had new construction could have had the water drainage patterns altered, hence could be potentially in a flood area. So if you live in one of the 50 states of the US you could be affected by floods. So please do not wait for disaster to strike, be proactive and check out your policy and if it is not covered get a binder to cover it. So do not become a victim of uninsured flood loss that you can cover easily. read moreMisleading Clothing Donation Boxes:Beware of FOR PROFIT Clothing Boxes
Misleading Clothing Donation Boxes: Beware of FOR PROFIT Clothing Boxes I am a big believer of helping people who are worse off than I am. It serves a multitude of purposes: One thing is clear; I am helping someone in need anonymously. They do not know who gave those in need of help and I do not know who received it. All I know is that it was beneficial for some one. The second part of this is the fact that I felt good that I was able to help someone. Donating clothing that you are not using anymore, due to “out growing them” as in my case make a lot of sense for all involved. I am helping a charity like Goodwill or the Salvation Army while making room for new clothes in my closet. One of the other side benefit is I get a tax deduction as well. In the “old days” it was simple. The Salvation Army or Goodwill was the “only game in town”. They were providing a place to drop off your clothing and shoes. Simple a’ win-win’ situation for all is what it used to be. Then all of a sudden “for-profit companies” started setting up drop boxes and they were reselling the clothes to consignment stores or textile recyclers. They have misleading markings and if not illegal at least totally immoral. I find it annoying that they have “small print disclaimers” so I ask you PLEASE DO NOT fall into these misleading traps of companies that give miniscule per cent of donations to charitable causes. So please do not help these unscrupulous companies make financial gains with your clothing that you intended to help the ones “in more need” then you. Give your clothing to legitimate organizations, such as Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Look Closely it is supported by a big grocery chain BUT only 15% is going to Charity! I donate a large percent of my income to animal rescue organizations, and give clothing to legitimate organizations and my per cent that I donate is a lot larger than these “unscrupulous” companies and I am still a “profit center”. Look at the boxes closely before you throw your donations inside. Pay attention and truly help those in need! Baked Rock fish on a bed of fresh spinach As most of you know I love to cook. The other day I had a craving for a Bouillabaisse. So I rushed down to one of my favorite Fish stores at the Pier (that is King Harbor at Redondo Beach). As you know I have blogged about both previously. Now with that said there was such a bargain on Rock Fish (which I add to my Bouillabaisse) needless to say I bought the entire fish which would have been a shame to put all that into the fish stock. Needless to say I was at the Farmer’s Market this past Sunday and bought a whole bunch of Spinach. So I decided to bake the saved Rock fish filets, and here we are: Baked Rock fish on a bed of fresh spinach. This Recipe is really easy: after you place the Spinach on the Baking pan pour either chicken or fish stock about a couple of cups worth over it. Sprinkle it with either Cherry, grape or anytime of small tomatoes. Place the fish filets on top. Add butter on top, sprinkle with fresh or dried Dill (if you have fresh it would be more fragrant & flavorful) Salt & pepper to taste and (I use both very sparingly) and sprinkle some garlic powder on top. If you want you can add slices of lemon over the fish, (I find that the small tomatoes are tart enough for me, so I skip the lemons). Seal the entire dish with aluminum foil and back for about 25 minutes at 425 degrees. In the mean time cook some rice and you have an easy but great dish for dinner. If you do not want rice I am sure it will still be enough you bought a lot of spinach. If you prefer have it with a French Baguette and of course some http://actvra.in/lP7 Bouillabaisse Recipe http://actvra.in/lwD King Harbor Fish Monger at Redondo Beach If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Playa Vista, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. Looking for an inexensive good red wine for you next barbeque? Check out: Crios Malbec 2010 As you know I love good values when it comes to wine. Hence for all my readers I chose an Argentinean Malbec. It is inexpensive, but very good, amazingly under $13 a bottle. Here are the Winemaker’s notes; I could not have said it better: The wine has a beautiful reddish/purple color as most good Malbecs do. The aromas are a mix of freshly crushed black cherries and toasty/smoky oak—just enough to frame the exuberant fruit. On the palate, the flavors of cherries and spice are obvious, and the jammy fruit quality just keeps coming on strong, with hints of spice and sandalwood lurking in the background. This is a wine that you’ll want to buy by the case because it can be consumed at almost any occasion, whether at a fancy dinner party, or just curled up on the couch in front of a movie. Fun and delicious—what more can you ask for?! Great with Chicken or any barbeque that you want to entertain with wine rather than beer. Truth be told I actually had it with Pasta and it worked well!
