When Your Email & Your Website are down what do you do?

Posted by on 1:42 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

So when your email & your Website are down what do you do? Endre Barath, Beverly Hills Realtor  wants to know! I am experiencing a situation that I can hardly write about. Five years ago this happened once, that my website and the emails were down for a few hours. Currently as we speak I am not getting my emails nor is my website www.endrebarath.com  available to the public. Unfortunately neither my clients nor anyone who is trying to reach me can do that outside of calling me on my phone or texting me. For being so dependent on email communication and having a large international client base is making this a very frustrating time for me. Clearly there are some red flags here I need to fix immediately. Clearly this is a good time for me to revisit how I can prevent this situation i.e.:  that this does not happen again. My website host’s servers are down. In turn my email is down because my website is not pointing the MX Records to Go Daddy Dot Com who is hosting my emails; therefore I currently am not receiving any emails. Many years ago I switched my email from the MLS.com since they were pretty unreliable and had many intermittent outages.  Clearly I was concerned about the effect it had on my client service and client communication and my overall business. Today as I am in the middle of negotiating with a client who is in China and we are trying to buy a property here in Los Angeles, this makes it slightly frustrating. So now let me share with you what I started doing to get proactive: 1.        I have been trying to recover my old Gmail Account endre barath@gmail.com   which I have not used in over six or seven years. Needless to say I am not tech savvy enough to do that,  because there is a person in Hungary who has the same name as mine but he has  EndreBara’th@gmail.com  which is unfortunately  Google is not differentiating between my name and the Hungarian person with the  accent on the second “a”. Go figure the challenges we encounter. 2.       So with that said I have created a new Gmail address. This one actually works now! EndreBarath.homes@gmail.com  is my new temporary email so I can conduct business until the original comes back on line! 3.       So at the same time I am notifying most of my client base who might be trying to reach out to me as we speak. There are about 30+/- who are immediately in need of my new/temporary email. So with that said what else should I do? What would you do in this situation? Yes I know I could read a book, watch sports, enjoy dinner and hope for the best. Seriously what advice would you give me? If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. Blood Moon: April 15th 2014 also known as a “Full Lunar Eclipse”!

Posted by on 8:42 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

Blood Moon: April 15th 2014 also known as a Full Lunar Eclipse! This phenomenon has brought out to Griffith Observatory in Los Feliz, close to three thousand curious Moon Watchers. Just in case you did not know Los Feliz is a part of Los Angeles and also is home to the Greek Theater.  For me this occurrence has brought back some wonderful childhood memories to the time when my father took me to an observatory and I was able to see my first full lunar eclipse. It was especially exciting that I was allowed to stay up late and be able to go with my father to see the Lunar Eclipse. While we were waiting for ‘the big moment’ he introduced me to different stars to and explained how they were named based on their shape and brightness. That is when I learned about “The Big Dipper”  it was a very memorable night. I still enjoy looking up to the sky not only at night but in the day time as well. So today, I decided that I was not going to drive to Griffith Observatory, but go out from our home and see the moon. Clearly not as bright as seeing it with the fancy telescopes and not as bright and large as some of the News Photographers will take but just as exiting for me. So here are a couple pictures that I took without a tripod and without fancy telescopes I thought I share with you. There will be three more Lunar Eclipses in the next 1.5 years. So if you have a chance checks it out. The next one will be October 8, 2014. It appears to be about every six months for the next 18 months. Quite interesting to have four Lunar Eclipses in two years.  The conspiracy theorists will be busy for the next couple of years. I will look forward to reading about their theoriesJ.   Keep in mind I love  the Blood Moons, since the 2004 Red Sox’s 1st World Championship occurred on a Blood MoonJ This was the first time a Lunar Eclipse ever occurred on World Series Championship and in case you did not know here is a picture to remind youJ. What is going on Active Rain??

Posted by on 6:33 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

Sunday 11:45pm in the middle of my commenting and reading the “curtain came down”. Tonight 10:30 pm the curtain came down again…Then I decided around 11:25 pm to see if the curtain is still down…well it was a difficult log-in but here I am… anyone else notice this? For the past couple weeks there are times I click on a member and I know they write posts but magically their posts disappear and I can not find them. This I find annoying and strange again any one else noticed this?? There was a time when Active Rain promised us that we would be notified when there would be “improvements made” in advance what happened to this great idea. The new and improved Trulia has changed this???  Inquiring minds want to...

Did you ever hear of John Green? How about The Fault in our Stars?

Posted by on 6:36 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

Did you ever hear of John Green? How about the Fault in our Stars? Well today I was walking around the Los Angeles Festival of Books and I saw an incredibly long line of people who were trying to get in to see this author speak inside one of the largest auditoriums at USC. The crowd mostly consisted of young adult females mixed with older people and young men. So I asked who these people are waiting to see inside.  I was told by one of the young men that it was: John Green. Needless to say he saw the blank stare in my eyes and said he emphasized that John Green is  a really great writer and mentioned a couple of his books: The Fault in our  Stars, Looking for Alaska and I could go on and on. Needless to say I had the same blank stare; the young man smiled and said oh well you might want to check him out. So then I immediately sent an email to Diane, since I did not want to text her, since she is always over her limit of texting. I got an immediate response back: “…well who you think I am trying to hear this morning?” …having had my answer I understood that the book that was on her side of the bed was that “blue covered book “The Fault in Our Stars”… with that information off I went to the “Cooking Stage” but that is food for another Blog Post.  About an hour or so later I get an email from Diane, that she would like me to get to the signing part of the place where I saw this massive line. She is still at the auditorium and wants John Green to sign her book… As soon as I finished listening to my Chef to be named later, I head over to the Signing Area. So what do I find no exaggeration close to a couple thousand young adults sprinkled with some old adults…. Diane and I connect and from 1:30pm we meandered along the lines to finally around 4:45pm when we finally meet John Green. Truly a gracious author, who decided to stay for all his fans that wanted his book to be signed…,. Needless to say all the fans were thrilled and my curiosity peaked. So here is a book I have never heard of, now I must readJ on a side note most authors are asked to stay at least an hour to sign their books. John Green was a class act, he stayed until every one of his fans was able to meet him and sign the book they had in their hand. I wish there were more authors like John Green who truly appreciate their fan base and give back. The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2014: at the USC Campus!

Posted by on 6:31 am in Active Rain | 0 comments

The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2014: at the USC Campus! As most of you who read my posts know, that I am an avid reader, a collector of first edition books and I love meeting the authors enjoy some small talk about the books they wrote and get their autographs.  Well the big annual event is here, downtown Los Angeles at the University of Southern California Campus hosts the annual event. This is the weekend when I do minimal Real Estate activities: no showings in all fairness, I do answer my cell phone, I do respond to my emails via Blackberry and text as needed. The delayed response is all connected to, if I am conversing with an author or listening to an author discussing something about his or her books. There are clearly a few major interests for me:  the Cookbooks, the Cooking Stage as well as the Mysteries, Historical Fiction and just the experience to hang out with like minded people. People who love reading and or collecting books and we talk and share our experiences about author signings and which books we loved and which ones we did not care for. The crowd is very mixed, first time readers, seasoned old veteran readers, book sellers, book collectors it is truly an event that is worth going once and if you get hooked you go year after year. Check out our Coffee Mug Collection, we go back to many years of the Festival of Books; the proof is in the Coffee MugsJ! So if you do not see me on Active Rain and not commenting about your interesting posts the reason is I am at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books!   If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu.
