Kale: Loved by many, feared by some, where do you stand?
Kale: loved by many, feared by some, where do you stand? I love the Lacinato Kale Over the years I have read a lot about the benefits of eating Kale. Interestingly it has been one of my staple side dishes at the dinner table. I have always loved using this edible food as Decoration at the Thanksgiving Dinners and then the following day adding a new twist to the leftover Turkey. I have been a Kale fan when it was not cool, hip or trendy, so I am thrilled now it is becoming a more popular dish on the dinner table. My Favorite is the Lacinato Kale also known as the Dinosaur Kale or Dino Kale. I like the vibrant green color, the shape because it can sit flat when I use it as decoration and in my opinion it is a very flavorful oneJ The leaves are long and narrow. The best part about this vegetable is that it does not have the controversy of Broccoli. Broccoli has fans and enemies. The lovers and the haters of Broccoli both seem to like Kale. Now keep in mind that Kale fights fat, not that I am concerned about that, but many of you are. I just like the flavor, texture and color when I do my dinner presentations. Even more interestingly it fights Cancer as well as heart disease. If you want to double check my claim Google: Health Benefits of Kale and then come back to this post and prove me wrongJ Now you do not have to live in Los Angeles to love Kale it is OK to live in other parts of the Country. This is not a Trend Food. It leads the pack when it comes to Greens in Antioxidants. I am not suggesting you to eat it RAW, which you can. I prefer to Sautee the Kale with Garlic, Onions and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, chicken or vegetable stock (whichever I have at home) and fresh lemon juice. The best part is you can have this great dish on the table in less than 15-20 minutes. Red Sox: TWO Yankees: ZERO @ Yankee Stadium of all places! Ok In all fairness I understand that Baseball Season is long and things can change in a heartbeat. I also understand that this is what the the Doctor ordered for Red Sox Nation. After the dismal performance under the poor leadership of Bobby Valentine (who is now Athletic Director of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT) the Red Sox have a 2 and 0 victory over the Evil Empire! Yes I hear the excuses, A ‘Rod is injured, Teschera is injured, Jeter is injured….yes these are acceptable excuses if you are a Yankee fan. The reality is this was done in Yankee Stadium of all places. I really believe that the Red Sox have new life in them and everyone feeds of that energy and everyone is in good spirits. Anyway I am not ready to bring in the Broom yet but let us see what tomorrow brings! Looking forward to an energetic Red Sox team under their new leader John Farrell and keep in mind, this is the first time since 1999 the Red Sox are 2:0 for the season! As a lifelong fan of the Red Sox I really enjoyed seeing an empty stadium as the 7th inning was starting… If you are considering buying or selling a luxury home, or an ultra luxury home, or luxury investment real estate, or luxury vacation homes, or luxury beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. New Couch , no New Sofa Bed: whose is it? It’s my CouchJ! No their Sofa Bed! The other day Diane decided to get rid of the old Couch and get a new one. Not only is it a Sofa it is a Bed too. Keep in mind; she wanted the best, since we are expecting visits from friends and her father during the year. She did not want to put them in a Guest Suite near, where we live; rather she preferred her father and our friends to stay with us. So after a detailed internet research and personal visits to two different Bed Stores we decided on a Queen Sized Sofa bed. Not too large, hence it does not dwarf the living area. The Sofa Bed is actually custom built. I did not realize we had to pick the size, style, quality of the mattress as well as the overall quality of the other materials and of course the color of the cloth covering it. Hard to believe how much thought had to be put into this piece of furniture, since there are so many varieties and styles. Not mentioning the price if you Google it you will find it is listed in the World’s Most Expensive Dual –Purpose sofasJ (I anticipate this will last a life time, well it should for the price) So after typical drama of delayed delivery, sales person who handled the transaction was no longer employed by the place where we bought the Sofa Bed from and a few frustrated follow up calls by Diane the Sofa Bed arrived! So certain rules were put in effect: 1. I am not allowed to have Wine, especially Red Wine near the Sofa, 2. I cannot sit on it when I am having food with a TV Tray and more importantly I cannot lay on it when watching TVJ so with such strict rules tell me whose Sofa Bed is this? Is it mine, is it ours or is it theirs? Crab -Stuffed Tomatoes Ingredients: · 1 can of Crabmeat (I prefer Trader Joe’s) if you prefer and can get fresh crab meat even betterJ use about a cup + · ½ cup of cream cheese if you are concerned about calories use low fat.( I like the regular full flavored one)J · Half a cup of fresh chopped parsley (I like Italian or Flat leaf Parsley since it is more flavorful · ½ cup of onions (some people like green onions, I prefer Vidalia sweet onions for all my cookingJ) · A cup full of shredded Parmesan Cheese · ½ cup of bread crumbs · Lemon juice · Garden Tomatoes · Extra Virgin First Cold Pressed Olive Oil ( or any other Olive Oil) · Freshly shredded Basil leaves Directions: Combine all the ingredients, i.e.: the crabmeat, cream cheese, parsley. While you are doing this sauté the onions in the olive oil and then add the bread crumbs continue for a few minutes longer. Then add to the rest of the ingredients. Core the tomatoes and add the mixture inside. I like to brush the tomatoes inside and outside with more olive oil. Once you filled the tomatoes with the stuffing add the Parmesan Cheese on top Set the oven to about 375 Degrees F and then bake for about 25 minutes. Los Angeles, CA Classic Car moments around town. I am a big fan of classic cars. Unlike Jay Leno, the host of the Tonight Show, I cannot afford to buy classic cars, nor can I afford to store them. All I can afford is to take pictures of them and share them with you on the internetJ! Now with that said, I was going to Trader Joes in Westchester, CA the other day, (the home of the Los Angeles International Air Port) as I pulled into the parking lot look what I found. I had to share with you. By the way this was a weekday and not a weekend. For those of you who are not familiar with our climate we do not need to worry about snow or anything that would damage a Classic Car like this one. In my opinion outside of Detroit, MI the only other city and state, that has all the newest cars is Los Angeles, CA. We are in the forefront of being able to have all cars, new & old due to the tempered climate and our affluent demographics. So if you are a Classic Car lover and would like to relocate to the Greater Los Angeles, feel free to reach out to meJ. On a side note I have sold homes where the highest priority was to have room for at least six cars in the Garage! Malibu, CA what is the Luxury Real Estate Market like? Often times I get asked what is the Malibu Luxury Real Estate Market like? First I am thrilled that I get asked, unlike two years ago no one really asked me, now it is back in the everyday conversation. Second I smile everything in Malibu is Luxury Real EstateJ The better question is: how is the Real Estate Market on the Beach Side or conversely how is the Real Estate Market on the Land Side of Malibu? So instead of giving generalizations, like many people like to do, I prefer to give factual information. These numbers are taken from the Multiple Listing Service covering the period of January 1st, 2013 to January 31st, 2013. I have separated the statistics based on the Ocean Side vs. the Land Side. Now you tell me what you think of the Luxury Real Estate Market in Malibu, CA. For the Month of January: On the Beach Side of Malibu there were: 8 Active Listings: the least expensive home was listed at $7,995,000.00 and the median list price was $12,790,625 and the most expensive list price was $17,900,000 1Pending Listing: list price was $2,195,000 2 Sold Listings: the least expensive was listed for $1,250,000 and sold for $1,650,000 the other one was listed at $4,980,000 and sold for $4,700,000. On the Land Side of Malibu there were: 26 Active Listings: the least expensive home was listed for $869,950 and the median list price was $3,930,805 and the most expensive home was listed at$12,950,000 3 Backup Listings: $1,375,000, $1,400,000 & $1,975,000 respectively 1 Hold Listing: $740,000 2 Pending Listings:$1,488,000 & $3,650,000 10 Sold Listings: the least expensive home was listed at $689,000 and sold for $685,000 the median sales price was $1,746,450 and the most expensive sale was $4,050,000. Well to me it is clear that there was a robust activity in the Malibu Real Estate Market, especially if you combine the Land Side with the Ocean Side Statistics. After you reviewed these numbers feel free to reach out to me with questions as well as if you are looking to buy or sell in Malibu, CA. Baiser Grimmett: a new partnership with the Iconic Beverly Hills Automobile Repair Shop! Welcome Back! “…Hi this is Baiser Grimmett how I may help you…” Sounds like a West Los Angeles Law Firm. Not really this is an Iconic Automobile Repair Shop that has received a New Life. As you remember I have written a post that Grimmett of Beverly Hills had to close its doors due to the economic times. (http://actvra.in/RBAJ ) Well lucky for West Los Angeles and of course meJ. My regular readers know that I had a battery problem. As it turns out I went by the new location and my Hydraulic Hood Mechanism and the Battery were fixed in less than 45 minutes. I went and ate a quick late Breakfast ( http://actvra.in/RyL ) as soon as I finished I received a call from John Grimmett that my car was ready. The best part was when I received the bill it was the “Old Grimmett” virtually no mark up and very little charge for the Labor. Hence I am thrilled they are back and helping the community!
