4 Helpful hints in making moving easier: advice from a Relocation…
Four helpful hits to making moving easier: Advice from a Relocation Specialist! Helpful hints to making moving easier! Good Preparation helps! If you just bought a home. First let me congratulate you for a wise decision. Now on the other hand it does not matter if you bought a home in Los Angeles, or if you bought a home in Santa Monica or any of the other communities, the next step is virtually identical, if you are moving from one place to another. Did you know that moving is considered or should I say ranked among life’s most stressful events? Now with that said moving can be made easier. So how can moving be made easier you might ask me? Well the answer is: the only way this can be achieved is with the proper planning. The most important part is good preparation and keeping things organized. So in all fairness if you already bought your home you are a little behind the making moving easier process. When you start the home searching process, that is when you should be starting on your preparation of moving as well! My first advice is simple: start a file and place all receipts that are associated with the move. i.e.: all your expenses should be consolidated with the move for the sole purpose that, when you see your Accountant you can present him with all your move related expenses. Second: Identify the “stuff” that you can live without. Then based on that decide what you want to “sell”, “donate” or just “toss” this all can be done while you are in your search mode for your next location. Start the process of getting rid of “stuff” If you waited too long do not despair you can still catch up, after all most Escrow Periods are 30-45 days long, but you need to hurry. Third: start labeling furniture peaces, so you can have an idea where they will be going. When the movers come you can have them deliver it in the right room of your new home. If you are really good, you can create a floor plan and mark the spots and let the movers know where you want each piece of furniture to be placed. You will be glad later! Fourth: when you are packing items, remember to keep the boxes light enough for easier handling. Also pack similar items together i.e.: kitchen items, bedroom items…you get the idea. Make sure you label the boxes and if you have time create a content of each box and write on the outside “Open First/Load Last” these will be making your life easier at your new home! In case you are wondering I have moved well over 25 times in my life, this is the voice of experience speaking. Give me a call if you have any questions. Anthony Richard Conigliaro: Red Sox Outfielder of “The Impossible Dream” season of 1967 If you are a Baseball Fan and more importantly a Red Sox fan then the name Tony C. is part of your vocabulary and he is engraved in your memory forever.( A sad story) He was the only Major League Ball player to have had 24 home runs as a teenager as a Professional Ball Player. Tony was a heart throb to all the girls. Sadly he was hit by a pitch and his career was never the same again. He came back a year and a half after his injury and played for a few years with the Red Sox and even the Angels. Tony C was Massachusetts born and raised and died too soon at the age of 45. Those of you who read my blog posts know that I was this past few days in Malden, MA. I found his Grave, if I might say a relatively non descript grave site at Holy Cross Cemetery, with a couple of Baseball Bats Crossed and a couple Baseballs on top of his grave. Now a certain part of Fenway Park is named after Tony C and it is called “Conig’s Corner” in addition an award is also given to certain players Mayor League Ball Players who overcome some insurmountable obstacles and return to play professional ball. This award was started in the year 1990 shortly after his death. Interestingly John Lackey ex -Angel’s pitcher and now Red Sox pitcher received the Tony C award in 2013! The award has been presented every year by his two brothers Billy & Richie Conigliaro to the award recipient. Tony C will live on forever in Baseball History! Spring in Malden, MA! Pearl Street Lilacs! Having lived on the East Coast and Europe the only thing I miss during Spring is the Lilacs. Here in Southern California I have not seen Lilacs since we have lived out here. So it was a special treat to see the Lilac Bush blooming on this trip to Malden, MA. It bought back memories how much my mother used to enjoy and love the Lilacs! Having relocated to the Greater Los Angeles 17+ years ago this was a special treat for me If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Playa Vista, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. The Marina Del Rey, CA Blue Herons are having a late breakfast early lunch!! Diane & I went for a morning stroll by the Channel and much to our amazement, we saw hundreds of Blue Herons swimming, flying and having breakfast in the Channel. There were two unusual occurrences: one I seldom take a morning stroll with or without Diane, second that there were so many Blue Herons gathered in and around the Channel. This I know for a fact, because Diane does take strolls and she was equally amazed as I was at this occurrence. Interestingly I wore my “Save the Herons” T-shirt for our walkJ! Clearly this just reassured me that those of us who are trying to raise awareness to protecting the Blue Herons here in Marina Del Rey, CA are on the right track. As we are trying to encourage the Developers to reconsider the direction they are planning on taking which will lead to the annihilation of the Blue Herons, the animals were crying out to us telling us we are on the right track. The Developers need to reconsider their efforts to wipe out wildlife and nature in Marina Del Rey, particularly Mariner’s Village! Why it is so hard for this particular Developer at Mariner’s Village and these local Politicians to understand, that nature and the urban landscape can coexist? I am all for progress, profit and development as long as we consider saving nature for future generations. As a Greater Los Angeles Realtor I have represented many Developers who were protecting Nature & Wildlife and still created some awesome developments. Why can’t these Developers get this simple concept? Today I would like to remind the politicians and the Developers who are not familiar with Greek Mythology: That a Heron was the messenger of Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom letting Odysseus know that she will protect him on his journey! My point being, the Herons have been around for thousands of years. Let them live and be around for a few more thousands of years! In case you missed my other Blog Posts about the Herons & the Developer feel free to check them out: http://actvra.in/4gyw http://actvra.in/4dJb If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Playa Vista, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. read moreVeterans Housing & Homeless Prevention Act of 2014 in California…
Veterans Housing & Homeless Prevention Act of 2014 in California is on the Ballot! I love it, when we are being responsible citizens. On the Ballot this year, there is Proposition 41 and its sole purpose is in helping thousands of homeless veterans get a home or better said a roof over their heads. California is sadly the home to more than 25% of all homeless veterans in the United States. By voting YES on Proposition 41 we can make sure that homeless veterans have the opportunity to qualify and affordable housing. As more and more veterans are returning home to California I am so concerned. There are no jobs waiting for them, nor homes. We cannot allow in good conscience that these men and women be left on their own. We are the only country that does not take care of their returning soldiers. Would you believe it in Germany even after World War II has ended in 1945 their surviving soldiers are still taken care of. It is our duty to provide quality affordable housing for the California Veterans. For all the sacrifices these veterans have done for us, it is our duty as voters and taxpayers to help them in time of need. Take my word, most veterans do not want to be homeless, they rather find a job… I was shocked to read that people are arguing against Proposition 41 and their weak rebuttal is that “…it is the responsibility of the Federal Government…” These soldiers were not conscripts; they volunteered to put their lives in harm’s way to protect our freedom. It is our obligation and our duty as voters and citizens to provide a roof over every veteran’s head. As a Realtor and a Veteran I ask you to vote YES on Proposition 41.
