Marina del Rey, CA. Hospitals
As I sit infront of my computer screen I am reflecting on seven years ago the tragedy we faced in this country that changed everything. Here we are on the night of 9/11 and I was wondering what if something happened here in the Marina. Where would a new person that just moved here go, if they had an emergency, a medical crisis. I am one who last wants to see a Hospital or a Doctor, but there are many people that relocate, come to visit would like to know, especially if there is an emergency. So as I did my research I discovered we have: Marina Del Rey Hospital(formerly Centinela Feeeman Regional Medical Center, Marina Campus). Also known as Daniel Feeman Marina Hopital It is a 144-bed accredited hospital that offers basic medical and surgical services and has a 24/7 emergency care to the communites of Marina Del Rey, Venic, Play Vista, Mar Vista, Culver City, Santa Monica, Westchester and El Segundo (acording to their Website). They are located at 4650 Lincoln Blvd, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292 (tel) 310.823.8911 There is also the Playa Marina Walk in Urgent, at 4560 Admiralty Way, #100, Marina del Rey, CA 90292 (tel) 310.827-3700 their hours are more of a 9am-9pm with reduced hours on the week ends. I searched and thought how scarry, we have all the Hotels, Restaurants, Grocery Stores, but almost no Health care and what if there was a cathastrophic crisis. What would a 144 bed hospital be able to offer. That is a different post. So hope you do not have to use them....

This small Coastal Community of Marina Del Rey, CA has a lot to offer, not only superb restaurants, hotels, grocery stores as well as Bookstores & Libraries. There is Barnes & Noble Bookseller on 13400 Maxella, Marina del Rey, CA 310.306.3213. It is a three-story bookstore with over 150,000 books. Fantastic selections for whatever you are looking for, you will find it here. We are so used to seeing Large Bookstore chains, it is refreshing to see an Independent bookstore as well. Technically it is not in Marina Del Rey,CA( it is 500 yards from the border in Venice, CA )right on the Boardwalk is Small World Books at 1407 Ocean Front Walk, Venice CA 90291 (tel) 310.399.2360 This bookstore has a nice selection of signed first editions books. As well a wide selection poetry and magazines are available. I love their Mystery Annex, it is cozy and well stocked for fans of this genre (you guessed it by now, I love mysteries) What is unusual, that here you will find published books both of major as well as small presses. http://smallworldbooks.com If you prefer to visit a Library instead. There is the Lloyd Taber-Marina del Rey Library,4533 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey,CA 90292 this library was built by the Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors in 1976. I have been meaning to to write about the Grocery Stores in Marina Del Rey, CA. I had to stop first and write about the demographics and population before. It is hard to believe that in this coastal community of Marina del Rey,( 8,000+ in Marina Proper or 18,000+ in 90292 zip code) there are so many Grocery Stores. First I must let you know I love to cook, therefore I am passionate about having good and fresh produce. I am a firm believer the meal you prepare is only as good as the ingredients. The better the ingredience the better the meal. So let me begin: Gelson’s is located at 13455 Maxella Ave,Marina Del Rey,CA 90292 Tel.310.306.2952 They have a fantastic cheese selection, their fruits and vegetables seem hand picked. Their prepared food is fresh. The store is spotless. The servers are very gracious and helpfull. When I hold an Open House I order from Gelson’s to prepare for me a Fruit Platter and Finger Sandwiches. I have never been disapointed. They always have it ready and on time. Ralph’s Grocery Store(s) yes plural with in three blocks there are two. Hard to believe. one is three hundred yards from the above mentioned store at 4311 Lincoln Blvd. Marina del Rey, CA. 310.574.0909(tel) almost directly at the corner of Maxella. The Produce are fresh and they have a decent fresh seafood selection. I can see that they try to compete with Gelson’s. Afterall if you live in the Azura, you can just walk here and do not need to get in your car. How convenient.( I know if you are from LA you are supposed to drive, well amazingly they have a good size parking lot as well. The other Ralph’s is around the corner and three blocks from there at 4700 Admiralty Way,Marina Del Rey,CA 90292 310.823-4684(tel) Hard to believe they have a great Sushi Bar. The bakery is wonderfull as well.Try their Brownie Bites. I guess they want to make sure I do not drive to the other Ralphs. Now if you do not want to be near the Water when you do your Grocery shopping. Then take a drive to Albertson’s at 13401 Washington Blvd, Marina del Rey, CA 90292 (tel) 310.574.0606 outside of their large sellection of Produce, they have one of the largest Liquor (hard liquor) Department. I do not drink the stuff, but it left me an imression. (I am a wine drinker…) Then if you do not like the stores I mentioned above there is a Costco at 13411 Washington Blvd, Marina Del Rey, CA 310.754.2000 Hard to believe directly next door to Albertson’s. In conclusion I am ammazed that all these stores not only survive but prosper within such close proximity of each other. With all the restaurants nearby there is no reason to visit a Grocery Store. As I have been saying over and over the weather is great and it does not matter if you live here or come to visit it is a special treat to be in Marina Del Rey, CA. If you are a consumer who is considering buying or selling a home, investment real estate, vacation homes, or beach properties in Southern California, Los Angeles, Century City, Westwood, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Venice or Malibu. read moreInformation on Marina Del Rey, CA (Geography,Population & Post Office)
What prompted me to give our readers more information about the Marina was the fact that I wrote about restaurants and was about the write about the Grocerie Stores. I am sure the readers were wondering how large is the Marina population? What are the Geographic Boundaries. Why are there so many great Restaurants and why so many Grocerie Stores. So here you have it. The coastal community of Marina del Rey, CA is locted in the center of Los Angeles’ Westside between Venice Beach and Playa del Rey. Marina del Rey is about 800+ acres, of which half is under water. After researching it I discovered that it was man made in the late 1950’s. The general borders include the area west of Lincoln Boulevard, east of Via Dolce, north of Ballona Creek and south of Washington Boulevard and the Pacific Ocean. The land and water is owned by the County of Los Angeles and is leased out to private leaseholders on long term agreements. The Greater Marina Del Rey Area is defined by the Zip Code 90292. The boundaries include portions of the City of Los Angeles and portions of the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County. The population just as the geographic boundaries are tabulated differently. The Marina Del Rey that I mentioned above has approximately 8200+/- inhabitants depending when and who’s statistics you read. the Greater Marina Del Rey defined by the 90292 zip code ha a population of approximately 18,000+/- Since I mentioned the zip code I might as well give you the Post Office by the way of all the post offices in the greater Los Angeles West Side, they have one of the friendliest employees & staff: Marina del Rey Post Office,4766Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey, CA 90292, 310.306.4533(tel)...

If you are new to the Marina or are considering relocating. Remember it is mostly about the good life, healty food and sunshine. The beach has it’s own culture, relaxed dress code, it is not the Century City or Downtown business suits crowd that you see.( more then likely they moved here to relax after a hectic workday and you never know by their clothing) Here is another good reason. The Mercedes’ Cuban Grill. It is located at 14 Washington Blvd, Marina Del Rey CA 90292 Phone 310.577-0035. The Menu consist of great seafood, meats and vegetarian options. If you sit outside at the open patio, you can watch the colorful beach traffic moving back and forth (since you are only 500ft from the Beach) If you sit inside, then there is a pleasant experience and you truly begin to focus on the food. I would rate it somewhere around three stars depending when you go. The service is generaly pleasant but not consistent. The food on the otherhand is consistently good. Another alternative is to sit at the Bar and enjoy their decent wine selection by the glass and have some of the wonderful starters with your drinks. Good ambiance, great food. Eventhough the name implies Cuban food the preperation is more California Cousine vs. Cuban. If you have a dog, they are welcome at the Patio.Often you see patrons with their dogs. If you look close you might recognize a celeb or two. So what I am suprised is that Zagat 08 forgot to review them. Just because Zagat missed out, You should not. Great Food & Great Ambiance. The only thing they are missing is a...

The Media ( I include Newspapers, Television as well as the Internet), has been bombarding every one with how bad the Real Estate market is. I have been telling everyone who was willing to listen , the situation is not as bad as the media presents. I have also emphasized that Real Estate is not regional or national, rather it is Local. Consequently people have asked me to back up my statement. With that said I went into the Multiple Listing Service’s Data base(MLS-CLAW). I took a snapshot of June 28,2008 to July 28,2008 and then from July 28, 2008 to August 28, 2008. So lets look at the numbers for Marina Del Rey : June-July (30 Day period) there were 16 Condominiums that SOLD July-August (30 Day period) there were 19 Condominiums that SOLD As of today there are 36 Condominium that are Pending in other words in the pipeline to close. Let us say for the sake of worst case scenario 10% falls out of Escrow, that means in September there will be 32 Solds. So obviously this is not such a dooms day scenario as things are put out by the media. By the way the least expensive Condominum was $415,000 and the most expensive was $2,050,000 for the period of June- July. The least expensive for the period of July- August was $365,000 and the most expensive sale was $1,875,000. Now the Pending we do not know the sales price.(will post it next month) Hope you find these numbers intresting. If you have any questions or comments, please let me know....

I have frequented Cafe del Rey many times. I enjoy their innovative cuisine. Even though I live in the Marina I continue to admire Cafe del Rey’s spectacular marina view as well. It is a great place to go for a romantic cocktail by the fire, or for Sunday brunch as well as any social gathering or simply to have a wonderfull meal wheather that is lunch or dinner. I have conducted business meetings in their coctail lounge. It is truly a dining experience. Zagat(2008) calls it “Superb” French-California cuisine. Suprises first-time visitors to this Marina del Rey “favoret”….”unsurpassed”;”gracious” service tops off what many consider the most “romantic” “gastronomic experience” in the area.
