The Festival of Books a fun event every year check out the pictures of this yearJ Last weekend we were at the festival of books. As most of you who know me or read my blog posts over the years know, that I am an avid Reader and Collect Books and try to get the authors to sign them. Keep in mind this might become a series of postJ (Too many subjects to cover in one blog post) So with that said let me cover Security. This event was shortly after the Boston Marathon Terrorist act. The good news was I never felt as secure as this event in a long time. First the University of Southern California (USC) is a closed campus. Once you come on the campus there is security everywhere. This year was no exceptions outside of the fact that it was visibly stronger. Campus Police augmented by Los Angeles Police was clearly visible. Police on Bicycles, Police on Segways, Police of Foot, Police in Patrol vehicles, Police on Horses. Well needless to say there were no incidents to report accepted that Security was super high and no incidents occurred. March 31st Easter was not that long ago well depends on which Easter we are talking aboutJ When I was a child I thought, time moved slowly and I would never grow up. Time was just moving slowly, now I look at time and it is flying. How do I explain that….well I cannot? So now getting back to my point, I was just coloring the hardboiled eggs so when Diane came home from Boston she would feel good about Easter and enjoy what she loves most “hardboiled eggs”. This of course reminded me of the time when I was a child and my mother and father would work on coloring egg shells. He would blow out the fresh eggs and my mother would spend hours painting designs on the empty eggs. Lacking both the skill and the ability to paint eggs, I chose the normal traditional painting of eggs. Needless to say solid colors are still fun. On a serious note: Memo for the Record use white eggs vs. brown eggs for coloringJ (next year) Alternatively plan in advance, not when you are negotiating two offers with international clients. Marina Del Rey: Breaking News Earthquake Rocks Marina Del Rey, CA I was prepping Dinner and Diane was feeding the cats another normal Friday evening at home. Then at 7:52 pm the ground shook, Diane was on the floor feeding the cats and said”… did you feel that?…” As I was chopping onions for my Seafood Risotto I indicated “yes”. My guess was about a 3.1 since the pictures did not shake nor did the nick knacks on top of the furniture. Well it turned out the Earthquake was 3.2 and it was about 1.5 miles south east of Marina Del Rey I.E.: about 1 mile from where we live and about 2miles North of El Segundo. Breaking News: CNN is reporting that a Suspect has been arrested in Boston Marathon bombing There is a Silver Lining to the Boston Marathon Tragedy. CNN is reporting that a suspect has been arrested in the Boston Marathon bombing (read story http://www.cnn.com/2013/04/17/us/boston-blasts/index.html). On a side note we have a friend she ran the Boston Marathon a few times but this year her and her husband went to New York City for the weekend and she did not run. Ironically the last time we saw them. We went out to dinner with them to the Forum Restaurant on 755 Boylston St the location of the second Bomb. (http://www.forumboston.com/ ) She also mentioned that there are still conflicting reports but there will be a Press Conference at 4:00pm Eastern Time Zone. Sadly according to many of our friends there are still close to twenty people who are in critical condition and their lives could go either way. So our Prayers & Thoughts go out to them and their loved ones. Reflecting on this Tragedy at the Boston Marathon in Boston, MA My heart and prayers goes out to the injured and their families in Boston, MA. Hope the healing will start soon and the perpetrators are speedily caught, so justice could be served! We are always so busy with our day to day lives that we seldom truly reflect, unless there is a Tragedy in our lives, such as a family member or a friend, or someone we know who had something tragic happen to them. Then again there are catastrophes around the country and around the world which make us pause and reflect. As some of you know I lived about ten plus years in Boston, MA and ironically before Real Estate I was part of the Security for the Boston Marathon. This was before 9/11 nevertheless I can tell you from firsthand experience, even then Security was well planned and handled by a myriad of professionals. I know and feel the pain of not only the victims but those who were tasked with providing protection to all. We as a society and as Americans need to take pause and consider that our innocence has been shattered with 9/11 and we need to be more vigilant and not complacant of our surroundings. If something does not look right or it looks like there is a concern we need to get involved. I am not suggesting acting as if we lived in a Communist Country or a Fascist Country, but with Freedom Comes Responsibility as well. If we see something out of the ordinary it is better to report it to the authorities than be tragically surprised. As we see time after time, that in an instant our world can change. I ask everyone to look around and err on the side of caution and if you saw something I urge you to report it to the authorities not just in this instance but any other instance as well. I have included a few photos of a happier time at the scene of today’s tragedy. Remember life is short and treat others as you would like to be treated! I love to take the fast and easy short cut to Marina Del Rey, CA. If you are a local you know I am referring to Culver Blvd. It is better than taking the Freeway. Needless to say this took my by Sony Studios in Culver City. I was wondering why where there so many young under 20 some people in line that went around two three sides of the Studio? Well now that I am watching the 10:00pm News I got my answer. The only propeties that make financial sense are the homes that you can buy and either tear down or somehow do an addition. We have been writing ‘All Cash Offers’ with virtually no contingencies with offers that were more than fair for the condition or the location and we still kept missing out. Some offers were $20,000 more than what we offered.
