As most of my readers know my nickname in Los Angeles is the “Land Man” I earned this thru hard work and a lot of Land Listings and Sales. Now with that said, let me return to the title of this post!

What is an APN? It is the Assessor’s Parcel Number.

Most counties use a number system to identify a parcel for tax purposes. In California, the Assessor’s Parcel Number (APN) refers to the map book number and acts as the index for researching parcel information. Information is usually available for public viewing in most County Assessor’s Offices and Recorder’s Offices.

 So to clarify those who are still confused: the entire United States is divided into a page grid pattern of Townships and Ranges, approximately six miles wide. Each Township and range intersection is comprised of 36 sections of land.

A single section is one square mile in size. Now if you need a good source of property information you have a couple of options. You can go to the Assessor’s Office and the Planning Department in most counties or you can contact your Preferred Title Company and they will give you excellent source of information about the particular property you have questions about.
