Playa Del Rey

Playa Del Rey, CA 90293, is the most undervalued best kept secret community on the Beach. To some of you who are not familiar with Playa Del Rey, this community is on the Beach.  The northern border is Marina Del Rey connected by a foot bridge; the southern border is El Segundo & Manhattan Beach. It is surrounded by Wet Lands and of course the Western border is the Pacific Ocean. The eastern portion is Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

It is a great place for bikers or people that like walking or jogging. The bottom line is the only reason you need a car is to go to and from Playa del Rey.

The Beach Life is great & probably one of the best Ocean Views in the area. The home owners know about this great hideaway. Amazingly enough there are a couple very good Restaurants in this small postage stamp sized community. Needless to say the word has been getting out since about 2010 and this clearly translates to price increases in Single Family Residences with the Ocean as their back yard, as well as Condominiums which are walking distance to the sand.

Now let me give you a little history.  In the 1870s, Playa Del Rey was the location of the first attempt at a dredged harbor was in the Santa Monica Bay. Under contract with the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad, Moye Wicks’ syndicate spent $300,000 to dredge the harbor, for shipping to the Orient. Within three years, winter waves brought flooding, but what remained of man’s early efforts became the Playa Del Rey Lagoon, now a regional public park.

Fast forward to the 1960’s Play del Rey was known as a great Los Angeles area as a  “surfing  spot”. The beach at the northernmost end of Playa del Rey is still known as “Toes Over Beach”, “Toes Beach” or just “Toes” by the local surfing community, a name derived from the toes over surfing maneuver.

Fast forward to 2014 and here we are Playa Del Rey is reaping the benefits of Silicon Beach Invasion. As of 2014, Playa del Rey (zip 90293)’s population is 12,129 people. Since 2000, it has had a population growth of 14.61 percent.

Needless to say it is still a good value compared to Marina Del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica and Malibu. All beach communities with a huge upside.
